Yeah the Cobalts were sleepers! A couple guys locally were actually racing and beating Vette’s so a lot of people didn’t understand the power those things had stock never mind with a bit of a tune and stuff.
Mine had a nice K&N short ran intake, a catless down pipe and a custom exhaust. I had a friend just tune it a tiny bit to adjust the air fuel ratio to account for the aftermarket intake and that’s about it. With the catless I often woke up the neighbors on a cold morning going to work lol.

MGB a failed English car company. I worked on English Roadsters in my shop for a few years. It was night and weekend stuff, but I did quite a little of it.
That's a Triumph TR-6 in the background. In the early 70s they were Corvette killers, too. I bought and sold a couple of them.
