RE: Weekend engagement week 22 topic: An eye on your hobby

I'll play along with both prompts this time. Since it is so late in the weekend I'd originally intended just to comment but reading everyone else's has made want to play too. I'd have to say that photography is my favorite hobby but that's mainly because I can combine most of my other hobbies with photography. I initially focused on landscape photography as much as an excuse to go hiking and camping as from a fondness for landscapes.

Auto racing would be a hobby I'd pick up if I could do anything. I love fiddling with cars and watching racing, and may or may not have done a little unofficial racing here and there but being able to dedicate time and focus to that would be so much fun. Honestly it wouldn't even matter what I was racing just as long as it wasn't that drag strip style 'racing'...

Sort:

For someone who like the outdoors photography is a perfect partner-hobby I think; The opportunities available enhances both experiences.

I like racing too. I've done some car stuff, nothing too serious, but raced go-karts for a while which was great fun. Finances got in the way, and time (lack of it), and so I give it away. Oh, I sold my go-kart to help fund the purchase of Faith's engagement ring also...It was a good trade off I think. :)

Yeah, I couldn't ask for a better one to partner with my other hobbies. Now if only I could figure out how to combine whitewater rafting and photography without destroying a camera or needing expensive waterproofed gear...

I had a go-cart for a while but just drove it on a dirt track at the house, never got to race it. Some of my friends are mechanics, they like to post memes about 'get your kids interested in working on cars, then they will never have the money for drugs' I feel that. I imagine Faith appreciated your decision :D

I enjoy working on cars (at least to some degree) so racing kinda goes hand in hand with that. Do they do demolition derbies there? I don't know if covid put a stop to it but for a long time you could go watch people race old school buses on the weekends around here. Now that was a sight!

We have demolition derbies here, usually in conjunction with Sprint Car events. Kind of fun...There's actually some method to the madness also. :) (Believe it or not.) They race just about everything here...They even have demo derbies with caravans hooked up. Lol.

I loved racing my kart. It was not a dirt cart though, a road-going one. It was capable of about 120kph and was great fun to drive. This was in the days right before it went very technical with MOTEC ECU and dash configurations etc. That's sort of why I had to stop...I just couldn't afford all the latest tech. Faith likes her engagement ring, a 100 year old antique or triple rose cut diamonds, at the time of buying it. There's a good story behind it which I may tell someday.

I feel that, the more tech involved the more I try to avoid it. Most of my tinkering with cars was mainly with old ones that didn't have all the electronics.

Cab't wait to hear the story to go with that ring!

Lol, I'll tell it someday...It's probably only interesting to us, Faith and I, but it's a good story I guess. I'll get to it.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.
