The Lively Imagination: A Life That Was Never Really Boring...

There are many things I have been and done in my 60-odd years of life on this planet, but bored is not one of them.

Even when I was a wee tyke, I never had much trouble entertaining myself... even while many of my juvenile compadres were evidently bored out of their skulls unless life felt like we were standing inside a pinball machine during a multi-ball burst.

As I grew up, I never found myself in that frame of mine of "OMG, it's RAINING! What are we going to dooooo?????

Having been born to "older" parents (mom was 39, dad was 43 when I arrived on the scene) I was offered many "quiet" activities from very young because the 'rents simply didn't like a lot of ruckus and noise in the house.

I spent my time in the company of books, or I "played with" my stamp collection, or I built amazing forts and castles out of my Legos. If it were nice, I'd go outside and look for birds' nests, or interesting rocks, or study flowers or insects under a magnifying glass.

By most standards, I guess I was a nerd-in-training.

As I went through high school and university you were very UN- likely to catch me worrying about "it's Friday night, what are we gonna doooo???"

And it certainly wasn't because I was dutifully doing homework... far from it!

From my vantage point, one of the greatest inventions of our age was the digital camera! Suddenly, I was able to study nature "up close and personal" without having to worry about the considerable expense of developing film and getting prints made.

To this day, life can never be really boring as long as I have access to a camera... even the one in my phone. To wit: these pages are pretty much always "decorated" with the results of my not being bored.

Of course, we could potentially turn that whole equation around and point out that perhaps I have never found life to be boring... but does life (and the people in it) find me boring?

Writing that sentence brings to mind conversations from my dating days... where I always feared that the most likely reason women would decide to break up with me would probably be when they discovered just how boring my life really was... and that I was totally content with that!

Above all, what has most helped me never grow bored is having a pretty lively imagination and "inner life." It was that active imagination that made me declare that I wanted to "grow up to write stories" at the time most of my friends were aspiring to become pilots or firefighters. There was always so much going on inside my head that I couldn't possibly grow bored!

Besides, I have always felt very comfortable with "doing nothing."

And now, it is 2021... and as long as I have venues like Hive, I still can't possibly grow bored with life!

Thanks for reading and have a great remainder of your week!

Life really isn't boring, as you say there is always something to do, and it's good that there are spaces like Hive to express ourselves.

I don't think it's boring, you just do what you like and that's good! S

I can relate a lot with your post , finding a rich inner life can be the best remedy for boredom. I believe that we define our own happiness and that what others think about our choices is none of our business

Loved this post, how creative you were with all your time as a child.
