I was going to start writing about something "serious," but then I noticed the golden light outside...
So instead, I'll get "light and fluffy" and share some images of this evening's sunset... because I looked out the window, and decided that pausing for a little time to appreciate the beauty of Planet Earth was in order!
Shot of the mountains where the sun had JUST set... too bad about the wires...
One of the things I really appreciate about living up north is our winter sunsets. Yes, OK, it's not entirely winter yet... but they seem to be more spectacular this time of the year when we often have a layer of high clouds.
Looking out across the bay, from our back deck...
I've lived all over the place, from the Equator in Kenya to 58 degrees north, and there are amazing sunsets everywhere, but the shallow angle at which the sun sets up here in the north seems to make these light shows more brilliant, somehow... perhaps because they last longer and go through more transitions of color.
Looking up high, above my head, we had more purples and pinks...
For the final shot of the evening, I trued to capture that point on the horizon with the most vivid color.
This looks more like abstract art, I suppose... but the paler band at bottom is actually "blue" sky, where it transitions into the band of clouds above, looking like waves. This may be the single most colorful piece of sunset sky I have ever seen, even if it lacks the contrast of gold rimmed clouds.
Clouds above clear sky
Less than a minute later, everything turned a uniform dark slate gray with just a little yellow at the horizon.
In all this chaos the world is experiencing at the moment, it was both refreshing and healing to "break state" and focus on something simple... and yet magnificently complex.
On some level, it reminds me of the way many of us look for meaning in things; behind things. And it brought to mind this (it's about 3 minutes long):
Life is ultimately just a series of moments... and it's up to us to pause long enough to appreciate them for what they are.
Thanks for looking, and have a great night!

Just lovely! Stunning colors!
Thank you! It was one of those rare occasions where I just stopped what I was doing because I "had to" go outside for a better look.
That was quite spectacular. I see many of them on the highways. More rise than set tho.
