"Mummy, taiku-po really loves us soooooo much! I can see love at her chicken nuggets even!" exclaimed my eldest!
Well, you bet. Of course she loves both of them. She loves all the children. Saturday was the day we waited for so that we could go to her house. She only cooked cook 'grand' food once a week because of us. We were lucky and super blessed. Her spread of food for us was done with alot of heart and love.
Just look at the dining table! She used to be cook for the expatriats and she enjoyed cooking.
Her signature chicken nuggets
These were our all-time favourite especially the boys. She did it from scratch from chicken breast. She tenderized the chicken meat by poking the meat with fork all over for some time. Seasoned them with salt, pepper and cornstarch. Rolled them into her own selfmade breadcrumbs too. Super yummy and healthy. She made these because she knew the boys love them.
Steamed minced pork
She cooked this for me. Haha. I wanted to cut down fat and fried stuff because I am prone to ulcers flare-up in my mouths. She marinated the minced meat with sesame oil, salt, pepper, soy sauce, she even added in some preserved vegetables, grated onions and garlic inside. Super fragrant and yummy!
Even her steamed rice were cooked in cinnamon, star anise and some curry leaves, very naturally fragrant. Sometimes she added pandan leaves into it too. Curry leaves and pandan leaves from her garden.
Collagen soup with spinach and chicken wings.
As usual, knowing we would come on Saturday, she would prepare chicken broth on Friday, boiling chicken carcass and chicken feet for hours until all the flavours and nutrients came out. Then on Saturday, she used the broth to cook this soup. Super sweet and flavourful on its own. She said she just needed to add a pinch of Himalayan salt.
Jansen was not ready to eat yet as he still had some abdominal pain, so he played with his taikupo (aunt) in the room. I didn't know how they conversed, but they managed to understand each other. One speaking in Hakka, one in English. It was a beautiful sight.
When aunty came and ate her lunch with us, Jansen played this by himself.
Thank you for your support. We will be working for a new payout scheme for you soon. Keep your chins up and stay tune!
This is great @iamjadeline, family should be a wonderful thing to have and experience.
It is so sad when this is not the case, as with my family a lot. It is a complex thing. Hard to understand how we came to this point.
I wish you all the best my friend
That's a great way to spend a Saturday! That entire spread of food looked really super tasty.
