Escape To The Wild - Powerhousecreatives Contest

Blue Skies Take My Breath Away And My Hope For The Future Is Bright

Creativity, adapting to change, one thing we humans are good at, we have reacted to current situation by reinventing production lines providing healthcare products. Frontline people are going out to ensure we have food, medicines, petrol, we have much to be grateful for, we will emerge with new knowledge, knowing that extreme adaption is possible.

Caracal - Caturday

Now when this is over, considering my last two stop off's were up in the mountains, my next planned visit will be back to the open bushveld, raw nature, too many places are being overrun with human entertainment, preferably somewhere waiting patiently, watching our animal kingdom.

This area I have shared many times previously, taking you into wildlife, seeing spectacular long white beaches, hugged by dunes reaching to the sky, wildlife being well wild... What more could one ask for?

Photography of this region with words to poetry that deeply resonates in me.

I Know a Place in Africa - Wayne Visser

I know a place in Africa
Where I can feel the sun on my back
And the sand between my barefoot toes
Where I can hear the gulls on the breeze
And the waves crash on the endless shore
0979StLuciaBeaches.JPG
I know a place in Africa
Where the mountains touch the skies of blue
And the valleys shelter vines of green
Where the trees spread out a cloth of mauve
And the bushveld wears a coat of beige
0799Hluhluwe.JPG
I know a place in Africa
Where I can hear the voice of thunder gods
And watch their lightening spears thrown to earth
Where I can breathe the scent of rain clouds
And taste the sweet dew of dusty drops
2561Storm.JPG
This is the place of wildness
Of evolution and dinosaurs
Where life began and mankind first stood
Of living fossils and elephants
Where lions roar and springbok herds leap
0343Rhino.JPG
This is the place of struggle
Of desert plains and thorn trees
Where pathways end and hunters track game
Of horizons and frontiers
Where journeys start and sunsets bleed red
0574Sunset.JPG

2517Buffalo.JPG
This is the place of freedom
Of exploration and pioneers
Where darkness loomed and light saw us through
Of living legends and miracles
Where daybreak came and hope now shines bright
0566Sunset.JPG
My heart is at home in Africa
Where the sound of drums beat in my chest
And the songs of time ring in my ears
Where the rainbow mist glows in my eyes
And the smiles of friends make me welcome

2539Giraffe.JPG
My mind is at ease in Africa
Where the people still live close to the soil
And the seasons mark my changing moods
Where the markets hustle with trading
And creation keeps its own slow time

My soul is at peace in Africa
For her streams bring lifeblood to my veins
And her winds bring healing to my dreams
For when the tale of this land is told
Her destiny and mine are as one

Our Lives Are Intertwined

Thanks for joining me, one place would fill my destination with everything I would look forward to once we are allowed to move around once more. Although I know the beach down the road is where we will go to let Woody run off the pent up energy stored having to become an inmate with his human counterpart.

This journey may not be over as soon as we hope, perhaps when we relate back we will remember and appreciate the things we have right here at home, this area is a 3.5 hour drive from home, so close yet so far!

Thank you for sharing so much beauty.

Not only does a family, culture or region affect us, it is very much in our veins, a love one cannot always put your finger onto.

This poem speaks of the longing, unable to be exactly where you wish.

Machine translation is holding me back. Pictures are important to me. According to them, I complete the idea of the text.

Having to translate everything is most definitely not an easy chore, pictures speak louder than words. Your submissions are wonderful being dual language with excellent photography.

Thanks for the compliment :-)

Thanks for such beautiful photos! :)

Glad you enjoyed them, I have so many in this region along with videos I will have to sort through and start sharing, many not shared at this point in time.

Thanks for visiting and have a wonderful day.

Such a lovely poem full of African strength and the pictures add the lustre Lady Joan. One is indeed transported mentally into nature and can really appreciate this free gift to all of us!

Good luck in the contest and I would think that this is going to be hard to beat!
100% upvote deserved!

So many places I would still love to visit, one thing I do know is in the 70's we could very easily have moved overseas. During the 90's opportunity raised it's head again to move. No I am African, I do not think I could breath not living in the land I love so dearly.

Thanks for visiting and have a wonderful day.

Hahaha, same here my friend, we stay where our roots are.
But we are the olde guard, as so many of the young people are leaving and one cannot blame them. My own kids included.

Stay well and take care!

Thank you so much Traci.

Thanks for such a wonderful poem and the virtual visit. I truly hope I will make it one day down there and see all of these beauties with my own eyes. Great entry for this contest!

Hopefully one day soon we will do more than travel through the lens of others, thanks and have a lovely day.

Wonderful post @joanstewart, I just love how you weaved your photography into this beautiful poetry! Thanks for sharing that heartfelt video as well; someone once said to me that once you've been to Africa, your heart will always remain in Africa!
You've given me much encouragement with this post, we have so much to look forward to!

'Cradle of the world', yes I thoroughly enjoy and follow Wayne Visser's work, not only his poetry.

His poetry really tells of missing his country of birth, deep rooted desires, he relates to the very fiber of our communities and oddities.

Spelling out feelings I felt when returning after overseas trips, yes I love travel, Africa runs deep in the veins, I could not leave permanently.

Trust yourself and family are all well.

Wonderful photos to go with the poem Joan. Your country is beautiful.

Some great photos, the fist beach photo looks like the beach between Buffelsbaai and Brenton!! Looks beautiful!!

Beaches up there are magnificent, if you have not been, do plan around a 1 week stay in St Lucia town, gives you easy access to local and slightly inland reserves. Well worth the trip, not too far from Pretoria....

What a very lovely poem to put together with your gorgeous photos! I enjoyed this post immensely!

Glad you enjoyed it, Africa is a strange magical continent, no indicator that I have not loved other places around the world when visiting 😉
