Feel Good Community Alphabet Hunt
Mongoose Memories one never forgets, stopping for lunch on the roadside being invaded by the Banded Mongoose of Africa enjoying the same space. Little did we realize these had become familiar with humans at lunchtime, keeping an eye on them we ate, then moved on quicker than we may have anticipated, a memorable occasion.
Mongooses settled down to relax sunbathing midday after food was stored away we could enjoy a little of their company. We do have Mongoose in our area, development has sadly made visits less frequent.
Yes the Mongoose is the one that kills snake, brave endearing little fellows in the bush. No matter how cute they look they are wild and do carry some nasty diseases, very much a case of enjoy their company keeping safe distance, I have never heard of Mongoose attacking humans.
Short Stories for children under lock down:
"Rikki-Tikki-Tavi" is a short story in the 1894 anthology The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling about adventures of a valiant young Indian grey mongoose. It has often been anthologised, and has been published several times as a short book" - Wikiwand
Monkey Everytime I look outdoors monkeys are doing their tricks, it's magical watching them when teaching the little ones how to survive, I have written about the Vervet monkeys we have in our region. Further up the coast we have Samango monkeys that are found in the iSimangaliso wetlands park region.
Two Monkeys of South Africa is where I mentioned the difference between the two, this time some photographs not used previously on Samango Monkeys, together with a few fresh photos of monkeys around the home making odd manoeuvres.
The monkeys are light footed running through trees, finding fruits, berries, roots along with bird eggs and whatever else they find.
Masked Masked Weaver Birds South Africa another piece of content previously shared, however new photographs. Melodious singing pours into the home from sunrise to sunset with bird life, many of which have masked faces, more regular visitors around the home in Mother Nature.
Mirror Matrix in society, a place in which something develops in the cultural, social or political environment, also in mathematics an arrangement of numbers, symbols or letters in rows and columns, used for problem solving. Somehow, Somewhere, Sometime.
Bringing magic to art expressing moments in time in environment, Sarah Pryke the artist mirroring effects of life in the wilderness, capturing cultural inheritance in magnificent memories using mirror matrix.
Mist Misty mountains, marvelous mist rising enough to mesmerize ones mind of meditating tranquil thoughts floating about in slow motion, mindful of all who masquerade as a moonshadow, optimistic of a better tomorrow missing yesterday, hopeful of a silver lining. Previous post photographs were used in Captured Between Clouds
Mist of Time does not alter what has been or what is to come, motivated to keep moving in forward direction, never marooned in one place forever.
Macadmia Nuts My adventure Going Nowhere Slowly Oribi Gorge where they farm the macadamia nuts, some photographs to remind one what they look like and a most enjoyable memory a couple of years ago.
When farmers start to meet then mingle ideas, sugar cane land switched to massive tracts of land under Macadamia trees, motivation for farming along the coast where farmers moved crops making South Africa the biggest producer of these delicious, nutritious nuts.
This brings me to the end of the "M" alphabet hunt always having some fun!

Love how you wrote this and your photos! It's really nice to read articles that are informative. It's my first time seeing a Mongoose. The birds nest just look so cool hanging over the water. Thanks for sharing this with us and have a great day!
Birds use trees hanging over water for added security, not so sure how often snakes would attempt to steal from them.
Mongoose are lovely to watch, always busy most people know the Meerkat due to television shows broadcast, both cute not the same either.
Have a great week and thanks for visiting @sgbonus
What an exotic M. We have no native monkey or mongoose species in North America. No Macadamia nuts, either. I am amazed at the spacing between the rows of trees. Is that to facilitate mechanical harvesting?
Mist is really rare here, too. Maybe a couple of times a year if we are lucky. But we do have the Mocking Bird which sings from before dawn to after sunset...
Thanks Joan. I really enjoyed the M.
You have amazing species I would love to see, mongoose and meerkat look similar but are not the same most know the latter due to television series all about their lives.
Macadamia nuts a lot of harvesting takes place by hand raking when they fall to the ground as well as picking by what I understood, the farm using everything nothing goes to waste!
Thanks for visiting and kind comment @bigtom13
Wonderful M's you found in nature @joanstewart, successful hunt for sure!
Love the Macadamias especially, we've never been to the farms but definitely on my bucket list, we love the Oribi Gorge area!
Tiny area with so much of interest to experience, I too enjoyed staying on the farm, farmer was so proud of what he and his son were doing. Not forgetting that they sourced and built their own designed equipment for sorting and preparing, very informative visit @lizelle
Fantastic and exotic selection @joanstewart ! This is a whole different world to have the mangooses and monkeys in the neighborhood, I just can imagine it through your fabulous post..😊 Thanks much to share these pictures with us !
Enjoyed going through memories of wonderful mongoose that used to run around here quite often, monkeys are here every day, always up to monkey business.
Thank you so much for visiting and leaving a lovely compliment @barbara-orenya
Wow, yet another collection of interesting animals and landscapes from your area! You are truly lucky to live in such a beautiful place!
Big or small always something captivating around each corner, especially when you able to get to the bush.
Thanks for visiting @bengy trust the family are all doing well.
Fabulous Pictures! What strange little creatures! :)
Mongoose are fierce in protecting their families, look so good when going through the bush looking for food together.
Dear sweet Joan thanks for making me jealous again.... that country of yours i love it, we had a program on last night and people were reunited in that beautiful African nature,
That art is wonderful it looks like the mosaieking if thats the word with the little pieces of tile but never saw it with mirror pieces its very nice
Something about the bushveld that makes one belong, very difficult to explain, my only wish is animal management is held high to preserve it for future generations.
This lady makes her art come to life using chips of mirror in the water effects, many of the birds are realistic in size, mosaic mirror art form, your mosaieking sounds good.
You've got an awesome amount of wildlife just outside your door, so to speak. I rarely even see a deer, anymore; the zoo is where I need to go to see fun animals. How fun!
It is worrying how development and human population is creeping in everywhere wiping out tracts of land the animals used, humans do know how to destroy much, hopefully one day will realize how to coexist with each other.
Those are some wonderful photos!
Cool that you have monkeys right around your house - are they friendly?
Beautiful Masked Weaver Bird! You have such colorful birds in South Africa!
Love that mirror art and the photo of the mist on the mountain is stunning!
Thanks for sharing your wonderful photography and bits about life in South Africa!
Monkeys play, feed, fight all around the home, you are able to walk quite close to them sometimes, all depends on their mood. Masked weavers are regulars as well, waiting outside letting you know they waiting for seed.
So glad you enjoyed the little taste of South Africa @porters thanks for visiting.
Your posts are always so amazing!!
Thank you for showing us so many Ms :)
Showing only a small taster, hopefully one day when everything settles down some may come to visit sunny South Africa @mariannewest thanks for visiting with me.
Wonderful post, Joan 😄
Once more you show us your beautiful country and wildlife with lots of interesting information.
These Mongoose are really cute, but I remember videos in which they kill snakes.
The Masked weaver birds look beautiful and I love the Misty Mountains shot. I would love to have Monkeys around the house 😀

Monkey's can get up to monkey business, easier to live with compared to baboons which tend to take over in other regions in South Africa Johann.
Mongoose are exceptionally family orientation, chattering to each other all the time, they too fight regularly with each other, must be ranking debacles as all families have.
Thanks for visiting and enjoying our little area over here, hopefully one day the mists of the virus lift and people can come visit to appreciate the wildlife @johannpiber
You're very welcome Joan 😊
These Mongoose are so cute, I have seen other videos too where they play and have fun :)
Somehow I don't like Baboons, maybe because of their teeth or their back 😉

You always have the most exciting wildlife post! I love the Mongoose and Rikki-Tikki-Tavi was one of my favorite stories growing up. It went on to me reading it to my own children. He is a household favorite. The like they're in South Africa is unlike any other that I have known. Having monkeys in your backyard is something I always see while I'm traveling but not where I live. So, you'll have to excuse me for getting just a little bit giddy as I want your monkeys jump precariously from tree to tree. Thank you always for the truly informational and fun blog did you put out every single time.
Loved it!!

We start off reading withRikki-Tikki-Tavi, moved onto Gerald Durrell, as an adult spend free time enjoying any adventures of David Attenborough, oh to see what that man has seen in his lifetime!
Acrobatic monkeys running across the roof can be entertaining, not so much when two males are not clashing like titans over females, that or getting into the home.... Oh you do have the odd one fall out of a tree what a calamity, they look rightly surprised at themselves, I am sure it was just an old branch. 😄
So glad you enjoyed this little time together sharing each others lands, it is the best way to learn, from those living there.

Great post! So much work, excellent photos, engaging text.
Thanks for kind visit and lovely comment @owasco have a wonderful week.
A perfect wild hunt and the best I have seen this week. Seems I'm in a park or sanctuary haha!
Oh I remember "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi" from when I was little!
Great captures of the animals Joan. You have amazing animals and birds. I loved the selections, especially the mongoose and the monkey.
You are so lucky to be living in Africa and to be able to see so many unique animals that we don't have here in Australia unless we visit the Zoo and the Mongooses are so cute and funny i would love one as a pet 😊
Beautiful animals, birds and people, minority/government never appear to appreciate and value the abundant, vibrant life around them.
Australia has many animals to amaze and entertain, most definitely unique to the continent. How are the numbers in wildlife recovering after the devastating fires at the end of last year?
This is true we do have a lot of unique animals compared to other continent this is the great thing about hive we can get to see them all here.
Surprisingly enough the environment and the animals are all recovering extremely well it's amazing how mother nature works so quick to bring it back to life again.
With is virus happening so soon on the heels of the fires very few are writing about the recovery of the bush and animals, I have one friend in Australia who cycles and puts up regular posts on wild orchid recovery.
At the time luckily i wasn't close to them devastating bush fires but i have a couple friends that lost there homes sadly and with the covid-19 virus i haven't been able to get out to see how the land and wildlife has recovered but hearing from my friends they say it's all nice and green again and the wildlife has recovered remarkably thanks to mother nature.
2019/2020 have been devastating in so many ways, good to hear the land is healing, thanks for coming back to let me know.
My pleasure @joanstewart lets pray things get better coming into 2021 😊
What a beautiful nature and animal post i love them Mongooses they so funny and the Samango Monkey looks amazing 👍
Animals have some entertaining ways to watch, even when driving down a road, turning a corner with a buffalo in the road, everyone backs up to give them right of way.
That is good to hear respect for the animals it's the way it should be 😊
