Dearest young Liza,
So you think you know it all at the ripe old age of 15 don’t you? Mom and Dad really don’t know what goes on in the world do they?
You started wearing spectacles just last year from those 2am marathon reading sessions as those books were just too good to put down.
Those rose-tinted spectacles showed a world full of wonders but sometimes fell from up high to a rocky hard place and were broken into hundreds of little pieces. You were so blessed to have them mended in no time by the dearest wisest uncle who was more like an older brother!
Back then, your head stayed mostly in the clouds, and I really do not begrudge you any of those dreams, but would your spectacles have become tainted if you knew then what I know now?
I should hope not!
Keep on believing in the good of people; as what you gave, jumped right back at you, most times. The hardest nut was often cracked by putting yourself in their shoes, and so you managed to bring out the best in most of the people that crossed your path.
I don’t want you to change any of that nor crush your enthusiasm for life by warning you of some of the tragedies that you will still have to face.
Remember when you made that funky pair of bell bottom pants with Mom’s leftover upholstery fabric and you invited your friends in for a cup of coffee at the end of the evening? Of course as you walked into the living room, you realized your folly – you blended in perfectly as you sat down on the couch!
Your funky bell bottoms ended up on the scrap heap but you and your best friend still laugh about that night!
What is my advice to you now?
Never stop believing in yourself, follow your dreams, don’t take life so seriously, continue playing the piano and just be yourself, and most important lesson is not to let anyone take away your zest for life!
I miss your youth and energy and am sorry I could not protect you from the hurts but I’m proud of how you always made the best of any situation.

Amazing that we are all aware of the fact you cannot change the past, lament over some events and laugh at others.
Your bell-bottoms must have been classic, rightly our parents never knew better than we did at 15, after all how could they? (they were ancient and outdated)
Haha exactly and of course our own children had the exact same ideas;)
Appreciate your wonderful comments @joanstewart!
You wrote a good one!
I like most that you like yourself. The head in the clouds is protection too. 👍
A happy day to you. I hope you still play the piano. 💕

Thank you so much @trufflepig, much appreciated!
Cool story! I've read two entries now, (three if I count mine), and we 3 hit on some of the same things, which is to be expected I think. You communicated the bell-bottoms humor from the past perfectly into the present - it made me laugh too! Thank you! :)
Thank you so much @free-reign, yep, just goes to show how we all go through the same experiences no matter where we find ourselves in the world;)
I enjoyed yours too!
Have a nice day 🙂👍

This is a very relatable, piece. Nicely done.
I think we all went through similar things when we were only 15;)
Thanks for popping in!
I really like that you used the spectacles as a vehicle to tell she/you what you see today. The story about the bell bottoms is hilarious! Do you wish you had kept them? I wish you had. Do you have any pictures of them?
How I wish I had kept them, no photos of it either! It would have been a classic not so! Those were the days long before cell hpones and cameras were kept for holidays and special occasions;)
Thanks for your wonderful comments @owasco, really appreciate it!

As I read through the other letters to various 15 year old selves I'm struck by the positive notes that I've found. I'm so happy to see this. And I very much enjoy the story about the bell bottoms. :)
Lovely letter to your 15 yr old self.
This rings true. ”I miss your youth and energy and am sorry I could not protect you from the hurts.”
