Green On Green

Hi there!

Have you heard of The Light Fantastic and of The Colour Of Magic?

Those are two Discworld series novels by Terry Pratchett. Entertaining stories with some philosophical flavor. They are also on film. But that's not the point. The point is, some things need closer observation. Or luck. Or the right moment, right time. Or experience. Or knowledge...Or they require you to rise very early in the morning so that you can be a few steps ahead in the game...That last part was in the books.

Aperture F 4; Shutter Speed 1/80; ISO 400; Focal Length 172 mm.

Two things...

For a length of 172 mm you better have faster speed that what I had. Like multiply that mm number by 1.5 or by 2 and put the result below the line of the speed number. I think 1/320 is the closest shutter speed option available. If you fo it fast enough, any blur due to the shaking of your hands will be negated. THat's some geometry related stuff I won't bore you with any longer with. I was able to get a relatively sharp image because my hands might be a bit experienced. That also matters. If you trust your hands to stand steady enough...

Also, that was all a distraction.

The real topic I wanted to discuss was how does a green object is well discernable on a green background. A matter of contrast. The object is lit. The background is not. Tonal difference.

Once you get it, your photographs will go up a level from the perceiver's perspective.

Also, that's why Black and White Photography still rocks!

The monochrome version.

Yeah, focus also helps, but trust me, if there was not enough tonal difference, the autofocus mechanics would have also failed.

So, well done, Sunlight ;) We're here to celebrate you!

And that is the really important story. I did find this twig in the natural spotlight but I also found it in the forest. Sometimes, you have to go to the mountain since the mountain will extremely rarely choose to come to you.

Celebrate the forests! Keep them for our children. Teach them to keep them for theirs.

Peace!

Yours,

Manol
