Groovy School Live Worksheet

in The LIFESTYLE LOUNGE4 years ago (edited)

When I first started this blog I wanted to make it alive by sharing topics in education. I wanted to make a Groovy Coin on Hive Engine and reward participation with the Groovy Coin. I even wanted to open a Groovy Shop and use the coin to purchase art, music and services like a classified Ad Newspaper.

@movement19 reminded me that I haven't blogged about Groovy School in a long time. The reality is that I can't do everything. I have some ideas but I'm not on fire about it. I'm very disappointed in the education situation and schools in general.

My kids enjoy online school and staying at home learning although the oldest is looking forward to joining the basketball team when school opens again. The youngest says there is no reason at all for him to be in school. They love learning at their own pace and in their own style instead of being herded around all day.

I have been spending this semester making English Language videos for my students but also got a chance to make some phone calls. I asked them what they want to do and so many answer, "I want to go to school." They say they miss their friends and miss the school lunch. Some of them already forgot my name even though I introduce myself in the beginning of every video.

Basically the thing keeping me away from Groovy school is that I'm not so excited about school anymore. I thought idealistically that I could change school and make something new. I saw an ideal place that experts could help others freely and grow together as a community of learning and fun.

I don't want to invest in something that I'm not 100% into. I would love a fun exciting way to learn with spiritual values, but there are already plenty of schools like that. They also face challenges in education. There really is no solution I see in the education problem.

For my kids learning at home is working and in the future I will look for an online high school for my oldest son. As for teaching, I will share some teaching materials here when I can.

The most important thing is to start small and simple. I always have great dreams about what things can become, but even if they do become a reality I find that is not really what I want. This makes me give up hope and give up desire to do anything about that dream. It can be called a fallen dream.

That's Groovy School, my fallen dream. I will not kill it though. Today will be my first official Groovy School post in 2020.

I will share an online Live worksheet today.

This is a basic worksheet made from ppt to pdf and then set rules to drag and drop and connect. You can learn to make your own live worksheets here:

The worksheet corresponds with the video I made for students. It's kind of depressing to teach "what did you do" because they all answer: "I stayed home."

How are online classes effecting you? Did you have to change anything? Did you learn anything new?

Yes! That's WTF I'm talkin' bout. Blog, baby, blog! I live for this shit. LOL. OK I'm getting carried away. But seriously. I can totally relate to not being able to do everything. I miss spending part of each day perusing blogs and being inspired to write my own. You certainly have a knack for blogging and I appreciate it. As for online classes, I won't do it. I made my way straight through 4 years of college without taking one class online. I need the face to face interaction. I need real time verbal discussion. Half the fun of school, to me, is having a great professor who keeps you interested and fellow students to engage. I'm putting grad school off until I can find the right program and do it all in person and no masks or social distancing. Screw this shit! LOL. For my own kids, nothing has changed since they're both fully unschooled since day one.

I love this comment so it took me some time to answer @movement19,

First I will say, "Thank you for answering the key question. Your answer was dope, but I ain't got no candy for you. There is no Groovy coin or reward for people who participate in Groovy School just like I don't hand out candy to make kid's teeth rotten.

I'm not even going to make a Groovy community, but looking at Mineopoly's blog overtime I see an overall theme: "Liberating students from the iron clutches that have been imposed for more than a century."

I made my way straight through 4 years of college without taking one class online.

Well, congratulations on an education well deserved. There was no internet when I was in school. And "4 years", somehow I thought college was a six year gig. I was sick of the social science BS so I changed majors and graduated in pure science BS. They don't BS in pure sciences until you get to graduate school. And graduate school is the biggest waste of money so you better make sure someone is paying you to study.

For my own kids, nothing has changed since they're both fully unschooled since day one.

How many days old are they? Or are you with the Mark Twain method of education:

"When a child turns 12, he should be kept in a barrel and fed through the bung hole, until he reaches 16…at which time you plug the bung hole."

*Samuel Langhorne Clemens

So are they home-schooled or are you just letting them learn from your example? How is that going?

My kids are 10 and 7 and they are actually unschooled. they have no idea what it's like to sit quiet in a classroom or have to ask permission to do anything let alone go pee pee.

Your kids will have no problem to think for themselves and solve problems in creative ways.

I think waiting in line and following order is something they can better learn at an airport or through a sports team than school.

I don't want to put all the blame on Friedrick of Prussia so I will distribute the blame for the education system mess among all past aristocrats.

Your show starts in 3 1/2 hours from now?

I got kicked out of better colleges than you will ever enter.
