Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri To My Muslim Friends

Muslims populate Malaysia more than half of the population here and since Malaysia is considered an Islamic country, we celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri as a national public holiday all throughout for 3 days. It's going to be a long weekend here.

Hari Raya Aidilfitri
Also known as the breaking of fast festival. A month before this celebration, there is the month of fasting AKA Ramadhan. During this time, Muslims would fast whole day without drink, eating and for the more fervent ones, no swallowing their own saliva.

After a month of sacrifice in fasting, then comes the most celebrated festival in Malaysia (apart from Chinese New Year), the Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Growing up knowing friends of different races, I have my fair share of house visitations and feasting with my Muslim friends during this festival. If you don't know, part of Malaysia's awesome food goodness comes from the Malays and their lemang and sambal.

Lemang is a sort of glutinous rice cooked in bamboo for getting its flavour infused.

Sambal which is an Indonesian Chilli paste is well known and can be considered a stable 'sauce' in Malaysia. Always accompanying it with almost anything we eat.

Wishing you a Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri

Sadly, this year Malaysia will still be on lockdown due to covid19. However, I'm glad that Malaysia is still a harmonious country where different races of various beliefs can come together, be friends and have fun together. When I'm celebrating Chinese New Year, they do also come to visit us and when it's Hari Raya, it is our turn to live up to that harmonious spirit.
