The Call of the Wood Pile (and other updates on the herbal homestead)

Right as I began to enjoying the height of summer I had an intrusive thought: "oh no! This will all be over soon! After summer comes fall then winter!"

To quell my anxieties over the cold season that will be descending in a several month's time, I am slowly starting to turn my focus to the wood pile that will keep up warm all winter.

An old walnut tree fell in the backyard and took out a palm tree with it. My partner did all of the actual sawing and now my job is to pick up the pieces and bring them into the woodshed.

This tree has been dry for years at this point so I think will be ideal to burn alongside other logs in the fireplace. As for the fallen palm tree, I am sad to see it's life cut short not sure what to do with it.

In reality winter is very far off. But, experience has taught me not to leave wood collecting until the last minute. So, here I am, refilling last years stores with a old tree.

The horses roam freely as I do my chores and, very often, come over to see what I am doing. The foal is especially curious and even mischievous! He tends to make up for his trouble by being so cute!

I grew up in a "cow town" and there were also tons of horses and stables around too. I saw horses each and every day at a facility across the street from the house I was raised in. It wasn't until living here that I actually got to live with horses and I am loving it!

Ideally the future owner of this property will fence off different areas to set up a rotative grazing situation. For now we let these three come & go anywhere except the garden & chicken coop. Their presence is truly doing wonders to control invasive plants and bring fertility to the soil.

((watching nervously as the baby horse noses around my potted plants))

Happy Homesteading!!

good eye! that is a Jacaranda, there are a few around the land but that one is particularly beautiful and so adored by the pets. Nice guess, I am in one of the neighboring provinces of Entre Rios, so your guess wasn't far off.
