We just made it through our first winter at the new farm. Besides all the oil we burned, it was a great winter. Lots of snow and a little ice made for some serious fun with the kids. We butchered 3 pigs and ate too many chickens from our fall harvest. But more importantly we learned a lot about life here on this small farm.
Winter was a good family time. We played board games (and suffered through chutes and ladders with the kids), watched way too much TV (thanks pandemic) and found an amazing new church family in our new town. There is a lot less going on when the temps drop. It's nice to slow down. But as we are discovering now, it's the calm before the storm. Winter is a time of planning and prep because spring is right around the corner.
And boy, I can't wait for spring to hit full blast. This spring we are preparing our largest planting yet, by like 10000%. We recently got hundreds of pounds of potatoes planted and cant wait to get all our other crops in and begin sharing the fruits (or veggies) of our labor with the communities nearby. Or wallowing in failure.
But I suppose in the end there is no wallowing, only learning. I can't wait to learn all the lessons God has in store for us and surely we will share some of that with you all and eagerly anticipate sharing in your hard and fun lessons as well.
So goodbye winter and hello excitement.
