This morning was a rare mid morning trip to town for me only because the stores would be open then. My first stop was the brewery to drop off the empties so they have them available. I then drove up Monroe which I rarely do anymore but the traffic wasn't horrible. I saw the Lego store in Garland district as I went by so I have that in my head for the boys for this summer.
After stopping for vape carts for the trip I headed to Home Depot to pickup the neem oil I need for the cabbage rows. It's concentrated so a couple oz per gallon means each bottle makes 20 gallons in the pump sprayer.
After getting gas I headed home then parked so I could get the topper put on. It really is nearing its last voyages but I am trying to keep it going as best I can for as long as I can.
Tools packed and ready to go and I have my wing in case I find somewhere to fly that is nice and mellow, of which I have many in my head I just don't know if I can fly the spots or not.
We got another mid day round of rain that amounted to maybe a hundredth if that. It was enough to wet the deck for about an hour.
Early afternoon I got the neem mixed in the pump sprayer and went to town on the cabbage rows and the kale rows. Pumping the sprayer up a bunch got a nice hard spray which worked well to coat the leaves quickly. I have more than enough neem to get me through the season and that should mean we will get a bunch of cabbage this year.
This evening was scouts. Well, it was scouts but we are all tired of the BSA ways as it is just another business which has the kids as dollar signs. We are going to take our pack and make it a twice a month "adventure club" so we can all get together and the kids can all do something fun and learn something at the same time.
For instance tonight as we stood talking by the door to the grange the little swallows kept winging past us going into a big nest in the transition of the roof. After a while I snagged one that had just landed on the wood and was able to hold it gently so the boys could all come and see it. It had a mouth FULL of bugs that started to pour out as I held it. I let it go and it flew off up to the power line and fluffed itself up and gave us the stinkeye. We adults were all commenting that there we have learning for the evening, getting to see a tiny swallow right up close.
Back home I was out out watering the potted plants in the greenhouse when I heard eep eeps. I honed in on the sound and found a pair of tiny chicks in the bushes outside the fence. I went to the coop and a hen was hovering over a few and a nest box had a bunch. I closed the coop door then went inside and gathered the hen and the chicks went into a planting pot. I tossed them all in the brooder with the other hen and pair of chicks but the hen began pecking at the tiny chicks. I yanked her an her two chicks out and they went to the empty turkey hut. After a bit I was able to gather the wayward chicks up and get them into brooder so there are 10 chicks. We have another hen sitting on eggs in the coop as well so we may have a bunch more soon.
Soaking was good but my skin still is being a major bitch. I have to keep well moisturized to try and get it to mellow out.
Today I am leaving really early for a 1000 mile drive. I hope to take it a bit slower on the way home and stop and fly somewhere but the trip down is a straight through endeavor.

That little speckled chick stands out lol😊
Sorry to hear your skin is still being horrid, I was hoping that you got some relief from that, but at least your cabbages look amazing, right?!
Hang in there my friend, hope the drive is going well!

Yeah I was a bit curious about the various colors of the chicks. The walnut one is completely random seeming. The black ones we have a couple black sexlink hens so they can be explained. Maybe one of the hens was to close to the neighbor's and had a trist...
I am quite amazed that the cabbage have done so well so far which is why I am trying my hardest to keep them this way. They may just end up drenched in neem the rest of their growth time.
