I'm slowly getting my #Meshtastic nodes setup and this is going to be my main outdoor one. The 4 cell battery pack I built is about 12k mah and was fully charged when I set it out on the deck about 10am where it sat all day then I brought it in in the evening. This morning it shows 81% battery left so likely it could go for a few days on only batteries. I am going to put the solar cell on it which should be enough to keep it running even in mid winter.
The sheep have been bitching at me for not getting a new bale in yet so I finally got around to doing it. The old hay cover tarp is falling to pieces and I had to fold half of it to trash as it wants to dissolve in my hands.
The damn bale was soft and hard to roll but I managed to get it in and then the cage installed around it.
With the winter weather I grabbed the rubber sheets and staked them down on top of the bale. It pulls double duty by sheeting the water off and NOT allowing the damn birds to roam the top and shit all over it.
The landscaping nails work great for the stakes.
After noon it was time to finally slay the beast of a stump. I had a chain sharpened so after the swap I got to cutting. The first section managed to pop out with the help of the wedge. The gravel and soil around it made it a bit tough getting a good angle with the saw but I managed to cut below the gradient of the ground.
After each section cut I had to sharpen a chain and swap them out before trying the next. The second section took a bit but I got it broken out after some smacks with the maul.
Cut, sharpen, swap. Cut, sharpen, swap.
With the gravel level around the stump I had to make my cuts at varying levels. I used the maul to cut away the sharp corners and edges that were left.
FINALLY!!!! The last piece got cut free and lugged out of the hole. It took 12 sections being removed from the stump to finally get it gone. The thing is 4 feet across down there. It was such a big tree.
I cut one little piece from the root section then began the back filling. I raked all the wood debris away into piles to haul off and tried to get only the gravel to pile back into the hole atop the remnants of the stump.
I took the time to move the gate. It was okay having it where it was but now with the new fence section going up I wanted it moved. This is actually way better for us and gives a bit more room for driving into the yard.
Jax kept watch for me so the birds didn't migrate in through the open fence while I was back filling the hole and leveling the drive.
A section of the fence that I had removed when building the wood cover got used for the new "gate". I have the fence coupled on the left side by where the stump used to be then on the post with the gate I have a lag bolt that the fence latches on to hold it in place, but make it so I can open it to drive in.
It took about 4 loads dumped over the edge to cleanup the bulk of the wood debris. There is still a bit more that I will get today.
R had a loose tooth for a couple days and he wanted it out so bad he ended up out beside the hot tub while we were soaking and he popped it out.
Today is no rain so I have a chance to get more done around the farm. I'll get the boys to school, go to my chiro appointment mid morning, hopefully I get emails back about my 2 orders that are refusing to ship, keep hauling debris and working on cleanup, and I really need to finish the greenhouse since the peppers and malabar spinach are still growing.
