Predawn Grain Run, Greenhouse, Fog, PDC, WTF?!, Wood Splitting Stacking, Rain-n-Ice, Fire, Grilling, Aim - Friday

in Homesteading5 days ago

That was a quite busy day yesterday that started as is seeming to be my normal around 4am wake up time, sans any alarms. So I got my self ready and was on the road to town in freezing fog. Thankfully at the such an early time there is little to no traffic to have to contend with.

My new headlamp is badass and SUPER bright. As I made the turn onto the brewery's street I had seen someone stumble out of an alleyway down the block and start walking towards the corner I turned down. He eventually started walking towards me and I glanced up with my light at him and he yelled/grumbled something sounding like he was talking out of his asshole. I shined my light on him more and he yelled to get it off him. I did not. I told him he better check his fucking attitude as he kept bitching at me and I just kept the light on him as he crossed the street. He walked behind a building and not long after a security car drove patrol around by where he had gone.

I never have much problems in town but that was a perfect reason why I carry when I go. You never know.

IMG_20241115_051424.jpg

I stopped for gas on the way home and I realized that I hadn't aired up the tire on the trailer before the trip but thankfully it had enough for the trip. I filled it once home before taking the boys to school.

IMG_20241115_053033.jpg

When I got back from dropping them off I parked the trailer right up next to the greenhouse for spreading later.

IMG_20241115_074318.jpg

An hour later I was ready for the day and headed out to spread the grain. I rolled up the side of the greenhouse and began throwing shovels full of grain across the ground. The still hot grain began to build quite the fog inside that ended up thicker than the fog outside.

IMG_20241115_085234.jpg

With the soil all covered I rolled down the side of the greenhouse and headed to empty the rest of the grain.

IMG_20241115_085527.jpg

This was how much was left still which I decided to spread over part of the pole garden.

IMG_20241115_085613.jpg

That way I could throw some into the sheep pen for them. It's the time of year where they will be getting less as I spread it around the gardens.

IMG_20241115_090422.jpg

11am it was still really foggy.

IMG_20241115_110253.jpg

PDC was on, only 2 matches but they went to 16 legs so were long ones. Cam was SO close but Mansell got him at the end.

I finally took the Soilmoist down to the house plants in the studio and added some to all the pots. I dug down with the trowel and just poured some into holes. I watered the plants then and all the polymers swelled right up with water. This stuff is really awesome and makes the time between waterings much longer. And everything is doing wonderful now in the studio since the window is ancient and has zero uv protection so they get the proper spectrum, along with my grow light.

Around noon I got the email regarding my HDD and the diagnosis but I waited a little to call. I headed out to the wood cover and got to splitting wood. There were still cured rounds that needed to be dealt with.

IMG_20241115_125801.jpg

So this is the hard drive diagnosis...

Diagnostics
• Slow Read - Reallocation Errors
• Read Errors
• Stuck Read/Write Heads
• Failed Read/Write Heads
• Severe Read/Write Head Failure - Light Platter Damage

AND THIS IS THE COST TO REPAIR!!!!! UHHHH, NO FUCKING WAY!

WTF.JPG

So I went to Amazon and found the same hard drive new is only $40. It's costing me $40 to get my hard drive back and I am just going to buy the new one and swap my platters for the new one and I should be able to get it working again. I will have to figure out how to gently clean the platters but for under $100 I will take my chances. Once I get my drive back I will order the new one then will have to make a "clean room" box to do the work in.

So after that shocker I headed back out to the wood to take out some frustrations with the splitting maul. The tree I was splitting was the pine from teh hillside and damn did it have a lot of pitch in it. SOFT pitch, like paste a lot of it. I scraped a ton of it off into the collection pot to save.

The stack got bigger all day long as I worked and filled in the back wall.

I was inside for a little bit and went to walk back out to the wood cover when I noticed it was super dark outside. The only storm in the region was aimed right at the farm.

And it came in pretty fast and dumped rain with the first salvo.

While it dumped I watched the end of the 2nd match where Lukeman made his first ever quarter final in a major.

IMG_20241115_142938.jpg

The second part of the storm hit and it dumped harder than the first part. This time it spit ice and rain at us.

The boys were home from school and the rain had stopped so I as I split more wood I got the fire going in the pit for the afternoon and evening.

IMG_20241115_154304.jpg

A little before 4pm I had the last of the cured rounds out and split then stacked them.

IMG_20241115_155721.jpg

The last round gave me exactly the right amount of split wood to finish the back row to the top. This side is 16 feet wide by 6 feet tall and equals over 1 cord. I should be able to fit 4 cord per side under the cover.

IMG_20241115_162240.jpg

I am REALLY happy with how the wood cover looks. It has such a nice warm feeling to it with the nice wood stacks and the yellow lights. I have some fir rounds curing on the right side which I want to move out to the trees by the studio to cure.

Grilled burgers for dinner after having to build the fire back up some.

IT'S ALWAYS THE THIRD DART!!! GO TO YOUR HOME!

Managed soaking a bit longer thanks to the extra Prednisone I am taking each day. My data is still slowly populating my new drive and will take another few days running non-stop to transfer it all.

IMG_20241115_205643.jpg

Today there is a chance of snow but most likely will just rain until tonight. I have the skis all out and the wax kit to start prepping them for the season, likely will do that this next week. Mid day the Kraken play while the PDC is going on then this evening we are going to the Spokane Chiefs hockey game at the arena. The boys have to make up the gift bags for their birthday party tomorrow, I'll move the fir rounds, and we will order J his new laptop for his birthday.
