Rain yesterday, again. But with this added .42" over the day we are now within .1" of 2021's super low moisture for December which we will surpass in the next days of storms. I woke at 4:30am to the sound of this part of the storm pounding down rain outside.
It kept the rain falling for the majority of the day with it only stopping near dark.
It was mid day around 11am and we all loaded up and headed north to Deer Park. We went to the First Street Diner for brunch and were nicely surprised that it wasn't super busy.
It was still before noon so breakfast food sounded WAY better than lunch/dinner stuffs. Towards the end of our meal a large group of Paradas construction guys came in and all sat at a big table. @stryeyz and myself were wishing they would slow down speaking Spanish so we could try to understand but neither of us can translate that fast.
We stopped at Yokes for some more supplies, food, beer and then I finally got gas in my truck, the real reason for the trip.
It was about 1:30 when we got back to the farm and it was still dumping rain.
While we were gone I had the 4 inch hose flange printing for the 3d printer exhaust. This is the window side and to make it quick I just cut a section of foam board to fit. Cut the hole out and fixed them together.
4 of my M3 bolts, washers, and nuts did the trick and it is strong enough for what I need.
In a moment of less rain I was able to get up to the studio with the Pokeball where I got it glued together and setting to dry. A couple hours later I put it together and we got it wrapped and under the tree where it finished drying overnight. I hope the shells stayed straight.
To make the porting work for the exhaust I only had to drill a single hole in the printer back.
That holds a fixed M3 screw that I use to hold the 90 in place.
I cleared off the top of the freeze dryer in the pantry and moved the printer and dryer in. I ALWAYS put my filament in the dryer and heat it while I am printing. I had to relevel it before I could run it.
I had to drill a hole in the 90 and coupler for a small screw and the drill I used is the exact right size for the M3s so I notched out a couple spots so the drill bit can just stay in the kit. I need to get an exact set only in M4 and M5 so I have them on hand for various projects.
The nice and short run of the exhaust tube from the back of the printer to the port I have in the window.
It finally stopped raining around dark and it took me a bit to manage to get the fire going. Stupid rain makes it REALLY hard to get the wood to burn.
It's all good while the cardboard is going but then it took regular beating, bashing, shifting, lighting, cajoling, berating, and more wood adding to get it to finally give me enough coals to grill with.
The whole reason for the printer move was that I was printing ABS and couldn't have the fumes in the house. I had to drop the flat of olives on top to help keep the machine from moving so much. It was a couple hour print for the catapult arm but I'm really glad I did it at 70% fill.
All put together the catapult is badass but a bit too strong for a couple of pieces. It's over a foot long and tall and has a strong throw.
Finally got the steaks grilled while we had Elf on to watch for the evening.
I had printed this part in PLA at only 15% fill and boy did it get exploded fast. I went and printed it in ABS then and sized it up a touch.
I still have to fix it in place though as it keeps getting popped out of place with each shot. I need to zip tie the sides or fix screws/bolts to hold them. It will be killer once I get that little problem dealt with.
Got out to soak a bit later and my hands allowed only half an hour, though they are getting better thanks to the twice a day prednisone and topicals.
Awake at 4:30am as per my normal this morning. Went out and grabbed the signs from the highway I had seen first thing while no traffic around. Got the rest of the gifts set out for the boys, just started my longest print yet of 7 hours for a 10-22 loud end quieter in ABS, the boys will be up an a bit and chaos will ensue for a while, then I know I will be grilling burgers for dinner tonight.
Merry Christmas everyone!
