Snow, Gliders, Turkey Butchering, Fungus, Trailer, Movies, Meter, Krash, Cat, Rain - Saturday

The snow held on until after light yesterday but was melting already when I woke at 5am. There was a bit of the system hanging on around us and Mt Spokane but by mid morning it had moved away leaving us with a foggy misty farm.

This is the sundial I printed and I got the pieces put together but still need a stand for it. It needs pretty direct light to be able to see it well but it does work.

I was trying to use up the spool of white filament and found a really cool glider. The thing takes .1oz of filament and 10 minutes to print and after scaling it to max size for the print bed I was able to use almost every last bits of the filament. I am going to be printing a ton of these for J to take to school for his class. All white means the kids can color them whatever they want. The things work insanely good with a rubber band.

The gist of our weather for the day.

It was 11am when I got my killing clothes on and headed for the coop. Tom turkey was not far away and I soon had him hanging beneath the overhang. I actually got it exactly correct this time. I used a piece of fish tape that is 2 ton capacity and hung him by the legs with one end then used the rest to wrap around his wings and body.

IMG_20250104_112338.jpg

The knife I used was insanely sharp and once he was bleeding the tape worked PERFECT and didn't allow him to flap or move around at all. That saves the meat from getting bruised and from it breaking bones.

Then while it was still warm I drug as many feathers out as I could before it cooled off too much. I didn't need to get them all but enough to make skinning it easier.

Into the house with it where R got a lesson in butchering. He was actually interested and enjoyed a number of aspects. We had to put his hair up though so it wasn't in his face or the turkey.

While not our biggest tom ever it was a big bird. Here R was working on the gizzard.

3.5 lb breast! Totaled over 7 lbs of breast.

The bucket of the scraps and rest went out to the bone yard for the eagles and animals to work on.

On the way back to the house I saw a number of mushrooms poking their heads out of the snow.

The trailer got hooked up and the tires all filled for my trip to town for grain I have done already.

For the afternoon I put on The Mummy as R asked for it as I was scrolling our drive. It IS still a good movie and the sfx are not horrible.

I got my decibel meter and this thing is going to actually work. It has the program for my computer and also has a digital output line that I can connect to Pis or Arduinos. I will be calibrating it today in studio A, 95db @1Khz.

Then the evening movie was Spaceballs which I know every line to and said most all of them as we watched.

IMG_20250104_185323.jpg

Then the Kraken game finally came on but it was a shitshow. They stank up the ice for the first 2 periods before finally managing a pair of goals but still lost 3-2. Could have been way worse of a loss but it's still a loss.

IMG_20250104_192040.jpg

He is still here but is pretty much going between our bed and the back of the couch. The weather likely doesn't have him wanting to be outside anyway but still. Thin and frail old man we are just keeping him as comfortable as possible.

OF COURSE as we go to go soak it was raining.... AGAIN. And it is raining now as I type this...

Not sure why it took over 2/3 of the game for the Kraken to wake up but they managed to save a little face.

I got the cabinet fully printed for @stryeyz set of drawers and it came out full sized this time. I will be working on the drawers this week.

Out to soak but didn't last too long thanks to the high heat.

I've been to town already in the pouring rain for the grain and will go out and empty it later. My S19 had borked yesterday and I didn't see it till this morning so had to restart it when I got home, it's back hashing happily. It'll be raining for another hour then should clear up today. Will have the printer going all day, after calibrating the meter will try testing the 10-22 again, Man Utd are going to be worse than embarrassed against Liverpool, then the Seahawks will hopefully win this afternoon.

It has been years since I butchered anything and man did those pictures bring back memories. Nice to see your kid helping you with the process. It is great for them to know how to do things on their own. ♥ Happy New Year!

Rain, rain, rain when will it stop?🙄
Glad you got the S 19 back up and running !👍😊
