Sunshine, 3DP, Fridge, Dishes, Shit Filament, Man Utd, Carmen San Diego, Dinner, Chiefs - Friday

in Homesteading2 days ago

Not sure why I'm waking at 4am again but yesterday morning was another one. I was up for a bit before I turned the light on the printer to see how the panel did overnight. It looked okay at first glance but when I took it off the plate I found that the last layer had not printed. The filament got stuck but it was printed enough to use.

Swapped to the next remnant roll of PET and set the next panel to print. It was done in an hour 40 minutes and finished correctly.

Got the boys to school under clear skies and a bit later the sun came up over the hill and began to melt some of the snow.

The birds all took advantage of the warmth of the sun as they gathered in the few areas it really hit.

The 3rd of the 4 done and I had just about run out the spools of PET so I decided to give the PLA a run for the last one.

While it began the print I dug into the fridge and emptied old containers and hauled it out to the birds. It opened up a lot of space now.

Man Utd played and it looked like it was going to be a typical loss for most of the match.

Then they miracled a goal in, finally.

The dishwasher got loaded and running. Thankfully it didn't bork on me this time and ran just fine.

IMG_20250207_133848.jpg

Then they miracled in the winning goal with seconds left. They didn't deserve the win at all.

Rather pleased with the tea tub I printed. It works really well and allows air to get under it to help dry it so as not to mold.

So it took me hours of the day and 4 attempts to print the last panel in PLA due to the filament clogging after about 3 layers of printing. It turns out the filament is trash, it gets to fat for the nozzle and stops feeding. It's Creality filament too... So I gave in and opened a new roll of PET and got the last panel printing.

Which it came out perfect. Not sure what the problem is with white PLA but this isn't the first problem like this I have had.

Thank you Archive dot Org, it had the first 2 seasons of Where In The World Is Carmen San Diego? HOLY SHIT am I amazed I still remember the songs and so many of the bits. I watched this religiously as a kid and it helped instill geography in my craw. J is a geography genius so we knew he would love the show. Insane 65 episodes per season...

No desire to cook so up the road we went to Backroads for dinner. They changed up their menu recently and have some nice options.

The boys love it since there are arcade games and candy machines. We had a great meal then headed for home.

The couplers for the panels that I will print the inserts for wall mounting today.

Holy shit did Spokane throw down the hammer on Seattle! It was 6-1 when I turned it off at the end of the 2nd period and they won 9-1.

Got a bit longer soaking but still couldn't make the hour.

Today it's snowing super light but should move off soon. I'll have the printer going in a bit, need to wash clothes, cleaning and organizing, and not sure what else.

WITWICS was the bomb!

White PLA has always been the most troublesome filament when I ran the library printers, too. I think it's the nature of whatever the add to whiten and make more opaque the natural beige and translucent material. Other colors don't have the same issue. But bad filament is just bad filament too.

Yeah the other colors are fine but that stupid white seems a hard formula to perfect.
