This morning it dawned on me that the month that was a year was almost over! January is on its way out the door, which of course means February, the month that is the most fun to spell, is upon us!
Of course, for me that means I get to start onions, peppers, and some of my flowers. Now let me tell you, since I spent the last two years running the theme park bakery, I didn't get to garden in the manner of which I enjoy or on the scale that I desire. This year I get to do both! Gratitude squeal emanation come forth!
Anyway, February is when I start such things, as onions take FOR-EH-VAH to grow when starting from seed, but honestly, I like doing it that way. The giving them haircuts stage is one of my favorite parts! (More on this later in the season!)
Plus, as is usual in Kat-world, I am elated about trying new varieties. This year I got a couple new to me cultivars to give a whirl, as you never know what is going to thrive and perform in my hardcore microclimate. (North Idaho hits different, any plant that thrives here is something else!).
An onion that I am excited to try out is The Red Long of Tropea. Okay, aside from it being a super cool old Mediterranean heirloom and possessing a shallot-y shape, the name is just a banger! I mean, if I am reading anything and see something with a name like that onion, it gets mad respect from me.
Also, you know I am going to grow it, because I'm fanciful like that!
In the pepper department, the Aconcagua pepper caught my eye. I have been on a sweet pepper kick here lately. I adore my hot chiles, but there has been something so enticing to me about grilling long sweet peppers and tossing them in my food. Okay, I also eat sweet bells sliced up like apples too, so maybe this is just a me thing, but truly, I can't wait to grow this pepper.
And since it originated in the mountains of Argentina, I think they might do rather nicely here in our North Idaho realm, I mean, potatoes love it here and they derived from a similar biome.
We shall see.
But for now, now I must go read an obscene amount of pages and content for Trauma and DBT class. Mind you, I am not complaining about that, the temperature out just warmed up to a blissful 16 Fahrenheit, so learning about therapy modalities and neuroscience next to a cozy woodstove is quite preferable to any outside alternative at the moment.
Ask me how I feel about all this homework about a month from now though😉

It is so exciting to plan the spring garden and dream of new varieties of plants! I wish you luck and love the kitty and the quilt as well.
It is super exciting, you are so right! And thank you so much for the luck well wishes and kitty and quilt compliments😊 Hope you had the most wonderful weekend!

Another one starting seeds far ahead of me. Sigh... I'll just keep working on the seed orders today...
Do books like this really help to grow plants?
Do they work?
