Let me tell ya, it gets a touch of warmth in the air round here and things just explode out of the ground!
I'm super pleased with the garlic! This past fall when we seeded it, I also had the hubs spread a bunch of alfalfa pellets on top of the soil because I read somewhere that it did wonders for bulb and root development. It must have done something, because what's peeking out of the straw is right nice looking!
Every spring I start winter debris clean up at the house and work my way outward. Yesterday alone I spent two hours on the lawnmower pulling the sweeper and ended up with a YUGE pile of pine needles and sticks to burn.
Per usual, I was heavily supurrvised.
Even though I have the sweeper, there is still a respectable bit of raking to do. It's nice not to have to rake eight solid days just to do the yard! In between raking up around the trees I took a break to check out what sprouting up.
The rhubarb is going to town and has grown leaps and bounds, and I don't regret using two turns of phrase in one sentence at all.
There's no shortage of irises round here either!
And the assortment of perennials in the front flower bed made their appearance as they are wont to do.
A couple of new additions who showed their faces truly excited me. Last fall I plunked a couple hundred assorted bulbs into the earth right before the deep freeze. I put them to bed under a nice blanket of straw, and since it was nice and warm yesterday, I pulled the straw back and spied these little sprouties.
Another triumphant return was the catmint I found in sad shape at a big box store for three whole dollars. It looks like a million bucks now.
And finally there are the chives. I've already cut the chives once this spring, because they are mighty tasty atop some taters. I love a roasted potato with butter and chives. Okay, these days I don't get to have real butter, but at least I get to have legit chives, and they taste amazing!
And on that note, I am outta here. My seed potatoes came in today, so I will probably do an unboxing post on them as I used a new seed stock provider. I've also got plenty of vacation posts I need to get done, but as I did homework for six straight hours today and then my volunteer hours at the community dinner, I am a bit kaput. So, soon there shall be more posts of things my friends, soon...

"Per usual" Shouldn't that have been purr usual? :)) Your garlic and rhubarb are about the same as mine, at least last time I looked. A couple hundred bulbs ought to be glorious in a couple weeks!

At our house, the rhubarb is looking great and the daffodils are up nicely. Hyacinths are blooming, and grape hyacinths, and the fern-leaf bleeding heart. It's nice to see some color in the yard again!
Your supurrvisors are very slack if they allow catmint to grow unmolested! I have always needed hanging baskets for the mint to survive.
As a member of the legume family, alfalfa puts nitrogen into the soil
