Actually,I have come to notice that the broilers we are rearing in our poultry at home have stayed for Four months there with slow growth,thereby making us spend more money buying feed because they consume lots of feed . Our major aim of rearing broilers at home is to provide meat and sell some of them at the market.Yea poultry farming business is a very lucrative business that gives lots of money to the farmers. But it's so painful that the aim is not realized.This slow growth in the broilers gave me lots of concern and I became much worried. Today I decided to visit Dr. G.G.Lemnten, of LIPTEIN VETERINARY & AGRO CONSULT LTD, to proffer solution to the problem.Fortunately, I met him having a tutorial session with some poultry farmers who also paid him a consultative visit. I quickly joined the class. According to him "Fast and rapid growth in broilers can be achieved if management is good. According to him,
Broilers can grow very fast within the first two weeks before fourth week.
Therefore , it is important to target this particular stage and give proper care to achieving the expected weight and growth you need."He continued his lecture and said "Beyond 6 weeks ,broilers chicken can as well stop to grow but still consume much feed not really for growth but its maintenance.
" Therefore he outlined the following maintenance culture that farmers like me can apply to get a faster and weighty growth ,they include:
" Avoiding broken feeders that waste feed and make sure you keep the feeders with much feed at time.
Make sure that constant clean fresh water is available for them at all time .
Make sure that your chicks eat the right feed type and according to it's size like *NEW HOPE FEED. Protein rich feed (22 -23%cp) should be fed to chicks during the first late 3-4 weeks.
Make sure you separate smaller and weaker birds based on body size and weight into sub groups to enable smaller birds to eat freely without being cheated or bullied.
Make sure you use broiler boosters or growth promoters in their feed and water such as (3 in one boosta, or grow quicker, etc ), these will help broilers grow up 2 times faster than normal and weighty. Always avoid denying your birds feed, again make sure you add libitum to their feed to produce heavy weight birds within a short period of time. Make sure you practice the Light-on and light-off principles. This enables broilers to fully digest their feed during light-off hours while resting and resuming healthy eating during light-on hours.
Make sure you keep practicing good litter and pen management .Consulting your Veterinarian before managing any form of disease symptoms or vaccination is very indispensable.Follow up on Mentorship sessions, it can help because no one knows it all.
According to him,he said "For an excellent start without stress,use BIO-DOXYGEN OR BIO-AMOXYCOL & BIOVIT PLUS as drugs of choice for brooding." he ended the class by telling them to apply the methods and always call for mentorship.
I was so lucky to have gained such a free tutorial and I shall definitely practice all I have learnt.
