Hello everyone
How are you today ? I hope and pray, we are all always given health and also happiness in living this life. I am also very happy, to finally have the time and opportunity to be able to participate and contribute to the Homesteading Community again. In my opinion, adopt a homesteading lifestyle is an obligation for everyone in this world. I don't recommend doing a thorough homesteading style like going to a remote village, doing farming, animal husbandry and also managing fishery for own consumption, of course it's difficult to do. In my opinion, doing gardening activities by utilizing the yard or cultivating freshwater fish in a simple pond will certainly make us better.

Last week, at the Homesteading Community, I discussed my activities in raising and cultivating catfish. About 2 months ago, I bought about 500 catfish seeds and put them in a minimalist fiber pool. Various problems are of course present and we must immediately find a solution.

Dirty water in the catfish pond and also smells bad

One of the problems when keeping fish in fiber tubs like this is an unpleasant odor. This is caused by fish waste and fish feed residue that has accumulated at the bottom of the pond. What's more, the water in the pool is static and doesn't flow, making the water in the pool smellier every day. I have done various methods, one of which is adding new water to the fish pond but the results are not optimal.

I was advised by my father to completely replace all the water in the catfish pond. In the end, that Sunday I did it, for information for my friends in the Homesteading Community. Changing the water in the catfish pond means I have to drain all the dirty water in the pond.

This work was of course very troublesome, because I must to drain the water with a bucket and throw it into the ditch. That's because my catfish pond doesn't have a water outlet at the bottom, so I have to drain it from above. Apart from that, my whole body also becomes smelly because it drains it.

After draining it for almost an hour, finally the catfish pond had started to run out of water. At this moment it was also my opportunity to see the condition and growth of the catfish as a whole. As I predicted, the growth of catfish in my pond is uneven. I saw some catfish grow big but I also saw a lot of small catfish.

I also counted how many catfish were left in my pond. After doing two counts, it turned out that in my pond there were 181 catfish of various sizes, of course. I am sad and happy at the same time, I am sad because it means that more than 300 catfish died during this catfish cultivation process. I am happy, because there are still many catfish that survive and thrive, I thought that all the catfish that I raised would die because of my stupidity.

After that, I put the catfish back in the pond and started adding new water. A little funny for me, because usually the water in this catfish pond is cloudy but for today it looks clean. Usually, the catfish in the mini pond will not be seen because of the dirty water. After changing the water in this pool, the unpleasant smell around this pool also disappeared and did not interfere with our activities in other houses.

Since I've done a lot of hard and tiring work, I thought it wouldn't hurt to take a few catfish and make one dish. I chose about 8 catfish with the biggest size for my wife to cook.

Then, my wife cleaned the catfish and immediately prepared some ingredients for cooking. We decided to fry the catfish and also give it some green chili sauce. The taste of fried catfish with green chili sauce is very delicious, especially when we eat that with warm rice and accompany with ice tea, and makes us excited to eat it.

So, that's what I did last Sunday. A fun and tiring moment for me. So, do you also want to try raising catfish? hope to inspire all of you.
