@solominer that larger stone is called riprap. What you want for the creation of the roadbed is either A-B crusher run or B-C crusher run. Anything else will just sink and will need constant maintenance.

Oh cool. I have heard of that term.. I think they call it by a number here.. like the smaller the number the bigger the rock.
Usually I get number 57 gravel for the top layer.
That is good to know about he numbers. The thing that makes crusher run so good for a roadbed is that it has a lot of concrete dust in it that bonds everything together. It is sometimes called 'road bond' gravel. Then over the top of the 'road bond' layer the smaller gravel (like the 57 you mention or what is called pea gravel) gets applied. It makes for a really nice road.
