Final Weeding on My Beans Farm: Ensuring a Healthy Harvest

in Homesteading14 days ago

HELLO HIVE

Maintaining protective beans requires keen attention to details even after the plant has started producing, this week I undertook the final weeding process which is a crucial process to ensure that my farm is clean and the beans do not face any kind of competition till it has been harvested from the farm.

Why is the final wedding important?

  • Prevents pest and disease

Overgrown weeds mostly harbour pests and diseases that would naturally spread so easily to the beans and cause huge damage to their beans.

  • Boosts beans yield

Beans compete for nutrients, water and sunlight with weeds, by clearing them out the plant gets unlimited access to all these for a healthy pod development during this stage.

Timing the wedding

It is important to keep a good time frame for the weeding, especially at a time like this when the beans are already produced to avoid damage to the plant in the process of weeding and to also prevent the flower and the new seeds from falling off due to too much contact on it.

Although the timing right now is a little bit off because the beans have just started flowering and producing seeds I still have to go through with the weeding because of the height of the weeds and the kind of weed it is but in any other condition like if the weeds were not as tall as they are I would have let things be the way it is.
