Hello Hive
It has been one of my greatest desires to engage in not just growing of food crops alone but animal rearing along side. It is usually beneficial if we can have both sides to sides.
One of the reasons for this is because whenever we are done with harvest it becomes easier for us to feed the animals with the residues from the farm.
It is a money saving process in which the byproducts of one activities is useful for another and this brings more profit potential from a business points of view
While my mum was yet alive she was able to manage the two activities together. After every harvest the beans pods and some other residue not needed or eating by humans is feed to the animals. Then she made good profits from raising farm animals. We had lots of chicken and goats as we equally lived in a friendly environment. The house and animals were far away from the farms hence we didn't have issues with goats eating our grains in the farm. Once harvest is completed, they equally get their own share of the food.
Having had some good harvest of beans from the farm this year, we have processed our beans 🫘 🫘 🫘 and collected the pods here
We brought as much of it home and our neighbors animals have been enjoying the meal of these.
It can equally be sold in the market to farmers who rear good and daddy had the intention of selling these but I have advised him against such and hopefully we will get a little animals farm started
Raising farm animals is not so much work especially now that we have as much food to feed them with. This ensures that nothing goes to waste in our farm. If we are lucky to raise some birds too it makes it earlier to get more quality manure for our farms as against the expensive purchase of fertilizers we did this year.
Currently we are still sorting and storing away our grains and giving out to neighbors the little we can. Sooner than later the prices of grains will be going up much higher than what they are now but we are at a better position of luck as the farms has provided for what we will eat for the next few months. Hopefully the hunger won't get so severe before we positive and prepare ourselves for the next farming season.
