How it is getting Almost impossible to grow Rice grains this year, Our withered rice seedlings

Hello Hive

I am not really happy about the current situation of things as we all understand that if farmers aren't able to grow some crops there will be scarcity of food.
This is the current situation of our rice farm even after transplanting and working on it twice now

The entire field is scanty only for the few strands of grains you can see standing. After the first transplanting in July, this farm got completely withered. We had to redo the work about 3weeks ago when the rains resumed but even till now the situation is still thesame.
After transplanting them on the 3rd week of August, there was still another break in rain for the second time making our field to dry up and of course the rice grains seedlings dried up as you can see here

I was hoping that these will come alive after the rains but not anymore. Rice grains had some ability to remain viable in the soil for long and germinate when conditions are favorable but rice seedlings are very week and must be transplanted in swampy watered field for them to survive.

Having enough rain to cover our farm has been a great challenge this year. The rains fall for a day and takes break before the next one, during this period the field gets wet and gets dried up again.

The grasses don't often get bothered by the rains and cover our fields almost immediately making us spend extra money.

You can't plant any crops in the grasses hence for every consecutive time we would be planting/transplanting our grains we have to apply herbicides again .

If herbicides are not applied before planting/transplanting the grasses quickly grows up and catch up with our crops and there has never been any crops that performs well in the middle of grasses. We have sprayed herbicides twice already, transplanted the rice seedlings twice already and this is what is left in our field.

The constant withering of the seedlings has caused a shortage of seedlings for us. We cannot cover the entire field we have intended to plant earlier and the little portion we want to cultivate and grow rice upon us still facing some challenges. Besides the time for growing rice has far gone, we are only planting and hoping that something will come out of it instead of doing absolutely nothing.

Once the month of September reaches mid, we can no longer plant rice grains again and I am hoping for some rainfall to plant the little portion of our field and the rice seedlings we have left.

It is really unfortunate to be experiencing this. If this situation persist and is equally experienced in other states of the country, it is only a pointer that food will be scarce in the coming year and even be more expensive that what we have experienced so far.

So sorry about turnout of the rice seedlings. Although I don't know much about rice farming, I do hope it germinates and you get to reap a bountiful harvest in the end

Amen, I hope so too.
Thanks dear

I hope it works out for you... Is this in India?

I hope so too, this is Nigeria

I see! Always great to connect with people all over the planet here :-)

A pleasure here too.
I'm happy to have friends from Canada and so many other countries through hive.
I have meet alot of quality people here.

The rice should be growing on the field, I do not like it when you have to spent so much on herbicides, if prices of rice goes up than we are experiencing today, we will be in hot soup

Good job my friend

I have a friend who also complained about withering seedlings. I hope it turns out well for you.

With the consistent rainfall this month, I believe your rice plant will do well eventually
