Hello Hive
I will be taking us through all of the processes, the work we do, and what we eventually get to plant and harvest. Yesterday was our lucky day, as you can see that plowing has commenced here.
The work is in stages, and I have already blogged about it since we cleared the land.<a href=' Mapping, clearing, and preparation of the land were done here. source
An estimated bill to prepare an acre goes thus
- 20k naira for leasing the land
- 10k for hired labor to clear the land
And now for the cultivation, an amount of 30k naira was the least we were able to get for plowing and ridging of an acre.
They hired laborers for the land clearing process. I was done with the clearing about a month ago. We have waited for the commencement of rain before we can finally start plowing.
Plowing and rigging is the second phase of this work, which has just commenced. Plowing is like tilling of the soil to bread the ground before digging will be done with the dishes attached to the tractor.
The cost of plowing an acre is 30k naira.
Hence, so far, 30k for clearing and now another 30k for rigging for an acre of land. You can multiply this by 22 to get the total cost for the 22 acres of land.
This is the plowing and rigging process in Camara; tractors are not readily available in Nigeria; hence, we compete with farmers from other communities to be the first to hire this farming equipment🚜.
The high cost of plowing is due to the cost of diesel ⛽ needed by the tractor for this job. I believe that commercial farming should consist of less labor and be cheaper, but this is not the case here because of other logistics costs like fuel and economic factors.
Although I am partaking in this task alongside other farmers, it is a good starting point and a dream come true for me because this is a good starting point, and with time and more capital, I could be able to afford and work on larger places to 🪴 grow enough crops that will feeda lott ofpeople,e asopposed tot the subsistent family that I have engaged in to feed my family, neighbors,s anda feww otherpeoples who have benefited from my farms.
The next phase of this work will be seed planting, and you will be seeing more updates from me. Thank you.
Wow that is really a massive development and I am really happy for you on this new step. You must definitely have spend a whole lot of money on these 22 acre of land. In fact getting those land itself is expenses
It's a collective work, I wouldn't have sponsored this alone.
Thanks dear
