Yesterday we harvested this ripe pineapple from my friend's home garden, and I was delighted to see that we can grow this type of fruit up to the harvest stage in a home garden. This is my first time being exposed to growing pineapple. I have learned how to grow different species of vegetables and will feel good if I can add the knowledge of growing fruits as well.

Having a vegetable and fruit garden can save one a lot of money, but outside that, one will have a constant supply of fresh veggies. Some fruits, like oranges, will take a longer time to grow before one begins to harvest them, but my friend has planted some orange trees in their garden here, and the tree has grown and is already producing oranges.

Here is their orange tree with a lot of oranges. The oranges on this single three are more than two thousand. They have two of this kind.

For the pineapples, it was planted in 2023, and they have exercised enough patience to wait for this biannual crop to produce. Yesterday I went to visit their home when we decided to enter the garden and see what work could be done. After weeding some of the veggies that had been overgrown by grasses, we spotted this ripe pineapple and decided to harvest it. Her dad began to lecture me about how to plant and grow pineapple.

We took the harvested pineapple home and peeled it here; it gave us a good number of slices that went around for the people at home. Even though I had expected it to taste a little off since it didn't look really ripe, that didn't happen, and the fruit tasted really good.

There is just one limitation I have against growing fruits, compared to veggies, that I can manage. The small space here can only grow veggies, and since it is a rented apartment, the landlord doesn't want anyone growing anything in the compound. Vegetables have limited height, but fruits can grow really tall. Especially this orange that the trees spread really wide. Pawpaw and coconut also grow really tall. Mangoes and oranges are spread out very well, covering large spaces, which is why we can grow them.

My friend is really fortunate that they are living in their own house and property and have some space that they have now utilized for gardening. Once in a while I visit the family helped them worth work on the garden as well and since they are equally my neighbors I do help myself to some fruits from the garden. The weeding and cleaning of the garden of often time a part of my duty too.

I will like to try growing pinapple in a sack to learn about the best possible way to grow this fruit since having the knowledge will be good for whenever it becomes possible for me to own my own house and a garden space.
