Hello Hivers..
Welcome to my blog!!
Feeding is one of the most important activity in any homestead and if not done properly can cause serious problems.
In catfish fry, feeding is a very delicate activity because at this tender stage anything can affect the catfish.
If you over feed them at this stage, it is a very big problems because there will start dying out of over feeding and the excess feed can pollute the water and depleted the dissolved oxygen level in the water thereby causing the fishes to die.
And if you under feed them, it causes yet another problems there will die out of starvation.
Then, knowing the number of times to feed them, is another thing.
Some people feed catfish fire, 7-8 times a day, while some 4-5 times a day while others 2-3 times a day.
For me there is no perfect number of times to feed them, it depends on what you want to archive.
I prefer feeding them 4-5 times a day.
For catfish fry, you need to master the act of feeding,
“I had to learn it the hard way” which wasn’t pleasing for me.
Feeding is very delicate for them at this stage.
When the catfish fries initially hatch, feeding doesn’t start immediately, because the little fries are still with their embryo sack from which the feed from. Feeding starts 3day after there hatch, which means I feed them the 4th day.
At this stage I prefer feeding them once a day for the next 2day cause not all ad them might have finish feeding from their sack and feeding them much might be other feeding at that point.
So, after 2 days then I start my feeding regime of 4-5 times a day.
I just feed them a pinch of their feed a time, I spread it at the surface of the water, the catfish fries will come up to eat the feed.
I try not to feed them late in the night, in any case the last feeding for the day will be around 7pm then I change the water by 9pm so their water remains clean through the night.
