So over the week, after spawning my catfish eggs and incubating it for 24hours on my madeshift incubation center I made in my unused kitchen, the catfish eggs hatched and the tiny frys are just wiggling in the water.
*There look so tiny when the hatch and are somewhat transparent in nature.
From my research, at this point the frys are still carrying their feeding bag around (LoL, I call them that) which is the embryo, and are feeding from it.
*No need to feed them till the sack if off their belly.
There will feed from the sack for up to 3 days then, the normal feeding will commence at that point there are ready to take in artificial food I provide for them.
When there have finished feeding from the sack, there will start having shape of a catfish and will look darker in colour.
For now, the most important task is to keep the water free from contamination and in good temperature.
For that, I’m running a flow-through method where the amount of water entering the incubation container is the same amount of water leaving the incubation container at a very low rate, so as not to disturb the frys with turbulent water flow.
To maintain the temperature is were I’m have serious challenge as my unused kitchen is very cold both during the day and at night.
This is due to the fact that the building in positioned on a hill, and we have massive wind passing often blowing in cold air.
*Tried heating up the room severally, but it’s costing me more just hope it doesn’t affect the frys too much.
Also, if there is debris build up I will need to siphon them out so as not to cause contamination of the water.
Water contaminating decreases the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water which will result to the death of the frys.
So, I will try my best to maintain this parameter for the next few days before feeding starts…
