Last Monday I hired some locals to give me a hand with the farm tiny house extension. I got a recommendation from a dutch guy who is a good wood processional. There is a growing community of expats in the area and it is nice how we help each other when needed. The two construction workers are British and Scottish and have been living in central Portugal for almost 20 years which gives them lots of experience on how to build fighting the local conditions, specially humidity.
We have started layering the sleeping and bathroom walls, there will be two walls and air will flow in between them to keep the house fresh in the summer. I had to get additional bricks and cement from the local store but this time, as we made the entrance wider, the truck was able to get in and unload next to the house.
Since this is an annex to the existing space, we are inserting the bricks of the new walls into the old ones.
Friday was a big day as we demolished the wall to create the door from the living room into the new sleeping room. Marked the area and the Scottish guy used the grinder to cut the walls and later tier them down with the hammer.
It was nice to see the sunlight get into the wall while breaking the old bricks.
I plan to build a sliding door to get into the room and another one to get into the bathroom.
I'm happy with the progress and how the guys take care of every detail. I hope we can get most of the work done during the rest of the summer.
