Protecting the well with a rustic fence

When we visited the farm for the first time last summer one of the most valuable things was the well. It is an old construction with probably a 2,5m diameter made of rocks. It is quite deep and you can see water at the bottom. I asked the former owner if it ever ran out of water and she said no, I had my concerns.

One of the first things I did in June when I got here was installing a water pump. I powered it with the gasoline generator first but when I got the big electric power bank and the solar panels I only used that system to power.

I water the fruit trees every day. I get the water for the construction needs, I fill in the shower, and water the ground to fight the heat and so far the water keeps running.

You can see the water level going down after using the pump for a while but after a few hours, the level goes up again. It is great.

I decided to set up some security to protect from the well a few days ago. The most secure would have been a gate but I preferred something more integrated with nature.

One of the neighbors has a big farm with a eucalyptus forest and offered to give me wood, so I got there and we cut some trees.

After sewing them in the forest I took them to the farm with the trailer, took the skin off, and added a coat of old car oil

The initial idea was to add a bunch of vertical poles one next to the other but I needed way many more poles and didn't want to bother my neighbor again so I decided to just set them one meter apart and add a cord. Time for digging

Although it is not very well protected in terms of security, I like the final result. I will have to wait for the winter to find out if those poles remain in their position and probably reinforce the cord with some more nails as I had to use regular ones and bend them to fix the rope. All in all, a few hours of work spread in a couple of weeks and project finished :)

This is amazing how you constructed the fence or (security). Well done also didnt know you could use the old car oil to make it look so good. Well i bet the farm looks even better now .
