Getting Ready for Spring Time
Ok well here goes to the official start of winter... I know it's lot the 21st of December yet but not is the 15th and so it's close enough. Plus it snowed already and on a different note, it's LPUD (Leo Poser up day)!
As you know, I pretty much hate the winter and I like to work indoors during the cold months... tho I did just mention to my wife that we should start doing winters where it's warm again, like we used to!
We went to Ohio to visit some family and as always, it snowed on the road. This happens allot without fail every winter trip in here.
This is the way...
This year we had a friendsgiving for a Thanksgiving and it was really nice, even tho there were a couple veggitarians with is. We had a lot of turkey leftover because of it.
We ended up making all sorts of things with that. First with the carcass all cleaned up and the meat put away safely in person in the deep freezer, I made my bone broth!
Some of the leftover turkey was turned into a shepherd's pie kind of dish that was delicious for a few days!!! Yeah we had leftovers of that too 😁.
Some was made into sandwiches and some were turned into turkey salad. I'm a little tukey-ed out, so is my family and that's why the rest went to the freezer!
We caught a flu a week before heading to Ohio, that wasn't fun and of course we ended up making turkey soup one evening, and it made us feel a little better. Our kid somehow never got sick... he has the immune system of an ox!
Before falling illI was able to make a few concoctions I had wanted to make from a wild brewing recipe book I had gotten from my birthday.
I brought back home some stinging nettles to make beer from.
I also grabbed a whole bunch of apples from a feral apple tree I found on my way to work one day. What couldn't be eaten was crushed and made into some sort of cider:
To be honest, the nettles beer wasn't great... it was too sweet so maybe I didn't brew it long enough or something went wrong in the process.
The apple cider on the other hand is starting to taste really nice 👍.
I think I'll get into it some more, I still don't understand the process but I know I like it.
I always have what my wife calls "kitchen experiments" going... sometimes they're just seeds drying other times cabbage and other veggies fermenting on top of the fridge. Eitherway she know not to mess with them 😁.
Sour kraut and wild yeast
So with the winter we'll on its way, I know I won't be bored... we have plenty to do. And I didn't even tell you about the house project we have either. Some I'm slacking on and others are in the plan.
What is your winter going to look like?
