Lots of prep work is going into this one acre area where we are going to be planting garlic in a few months. It has been tilled half a dozen times by now and with every pass I pull up more rocks. The tiller does not remove these, so I needed a machine that could. I rented a machine called a "harley rake" or known as a "power rake". It has a hydraulic spinning wheel that picks up the rocks and such.
Running it through the field will remove the rocks for me, and then I can get back to tilling.
Before I started I got a picture of what the field looks like.. We can see grass coming up along with many rocks.
The rake will remove all of this.
With the machine attached to my skidsteer, I go across the field and pick up all the rocks.
This machine is pretty cool, the skidsteer has to work hard to push it so it get pretty heavy when its plowing all that rocky dirt.
And the final result of one pass, we can hardy see any rocks at all. And all the grass has been removed as well. Now I have some rocky piles at the edge of the field I will need to deal with. But at least they are out of the planting area now. I may do another pass to pick up even smaller rocks, but for now a big difference can be seen in using it just one time.
The work this tool does is impressive. The land looks really clean, free of stones, and ready for planting garlic.
I wish you much success with your planting, dear friend @solominer.
Yeah I really liked using this machine, it was quite useful.
The presence of Harley in the name itself makes it powerful. You did a great job! 👍🏼
Haha yeah it is pretty powerful.
The land is being prepared very well for garlic cultivation. Although we are here now it is time to lift the garlic from the ground.
Ah yeah its good to have all this space to grow it.. Best of luck harvesting.
This is impressive, this machine works so well and the acre is so clean.
I think it takes a lot of effort to planting garlic. I wish you much success with your garlic planting.
Yeah, but I think it should do well when it comes time to planting.
Does a good work.
sure does
This is really awesome and beautiful
thanks much
Definitely the machine is pretty cool, as you said, how did you manage to learn all this ? I mean purchasing these equipment must be costly, but having the idea at the first place is equally important.
Yeah it is pretty cool. I rented this machine for a week, otherwise it would have cost close to $10,000 to buy one. But just a few hundred to rent it for a week.
It was recommended to me by another farmer to get rid of the rocks. So I took his advice and rented one. I watched some Youtube videos on how to use and got started.
So cool you all the tools you need to manage the soil to plant the plants
Yeah it was pretty cool seeing it pick up all the rocks.
I hope that everywhere you will grow well there, about what plants you will come I am very curious hehe
thank you
It's an incredible machine; the stones are gone, and the ground is clean to begin with. My father loves planting, although he does it on a smaller scale, in a family garden. It's gratifying to see the fruits of his labor.
It sure does feel good to grow plants, best of luck with your fathers garden.
What are you growing after garlic? (rotation)
Any plans yet?
No plans yet, the field is going to be bare up until we plant. And then probably going to continuously grow garlic if possible.
I think crop rotation was invented for good reason.
Then again: my friend grows onions on the same patch for 10 years and still harvests just fine...
Will you ammend anything? Are you not afraid to deplete the soil over time?
You plant a lot of garlic. I plant 100 times less for my family.
Hah yeah we plan on selling it.
Hello!
I've never seen machinery like this before!
What interesting work you do and show us!
Congratulations!
Yeah it was pretty cool to use it.
Great!

It surprises me a little that you plant the garlic in spring. In my experience, I plant it in the ground in late autumn. And not without good neighbours, if possible. These would be strawberries, carrots or beetroot. These ensure that the garlic is not attacked by the onion fly (Delia antiqua).
A great machine, by the way. All you need to know is where to find one of these things.😉
No we are not planting yet, just prepping the fields.. Will be planting it late summer/early autumn.
Oh interesting, will need to keep that in mind.
Yeah luckily equipment rental companies are an option around here.
In the autumn seems absolutely fine to me. And you shouldn't think twice when the first green stalks peek out of the ground in November. The garlic is absolutely suitable for winter. If you decide to plant strawberries (preferably month strawberries, which produce fruit all year round) as neighbours, you should plant these little plants in August. Carrot seeds or spinach go into the ground together with the garlic in autumn.
Good work,, best wishes for you 🤞
thanks a lot
Very good job my friend, hope you have a good day my friend 😘
thanks much, hope you do too.
Wooow
Great work so far..that one good machine. The difference before and after is so wide. Looking forward to a great garlic planting..weldone
Yeah sure is amazing the difference before and after.
