One month ago, we received a surprise gift at our farm.
In a cardboard box, were 4 beautiful chickens, 17 weeks old. They were healthy and curious and looked like little lions to me with their orange manes.
We were told they would lay eggs in around three weeks & we built a place for them to sit in.
The day before they laid, one of the chickens (the independent one) was following me around the house, broody, and looking for a safe place to lay outside their cage.
And, today, it happened! Our sweet hens laid eggs π₯
I purchased a new flock of chickens this spring, with the goal of raising my own chickens here. They're still a few weeks away from laying eggs, and I'm really looking forward to it. I've been having to eat eggs from the store since I lost my previous flock to predators last summer, and it just isn't the same!
Sorry about lost flock & hope new hens are better protected. Congratulations, on healthy lifestyle ππ½
The first eggs are always special. :))
They are! And, today, there are 4 eggs π
