You WILL drink the beer asshole 🍻
I'm sure we all have those friends (maybe they are just acquaintances) who you only see at the ol' watering hole. You know, the ones who message you for the first time in weeks or months and tell you they're having a party or whatever.
I live above a bunch of breweries now and I can easily look outside and see all of the people gathering to share a beer. A lot of them seem to be having fun, but I have seen so many people out of their minds acting foolish. Screaming at the top of their lungs, stumbling around, getting in fights, etc. I'm never down there with them despite my easy access. I have literally zero desire to be drinking or getting anywhere near drunkenness. This was not always the case.
If you haven't already read it, my blog about my past struggles with alcohol is eye-opening. I made so many huge mistakes during my heavy drinking phase. Some stuff that I will never be able to undo and am forced to live with forever. There were some good times, but a lot more bad times during that period of my life.
My thirst for alcohol began initially because I felt it made me better in social interactions. The problem is that I was so young still and my personality hadn't even been given the chance to develop yet. In the past, I also made a video about how I got over my social anxiety. Now I can be the most social person at any gathering and I have zero temptation to be drowning myself in booze.
Now I understand that not all people have problems with drinking and are able to control their consumption. Then I must remind you that even a little bit of alcohol increases the rate of deterioration, not only for your body but also for your mind. If your goal is to preserve yourself and live to your greatest potential until the day that you die, then you should never be drinking alcohol. It's a fool's temptation.
It's a shame that I notice so often that people drink religiously and think that is the reason they are enjoying some things in their life. When in reality they could get equal or greater enjoyment out of those same moments if they were stone-cold sober. Even better, you will actually have a chance to remember every single moment from those times because your brain won't be fogged up by the poison of alcohol.
You may read this and think that I may be trying to suggest that we bring back prohibition. Quite the opposite actually. When something becomes illegal, it makes a lot more people wish to do it than if it were legal. The taboo of obtaining alcohol during a time period where it is forbidden is a rush for many types of people. I want to make it very clear that I think we should all have the choice of whether or not we guzzle alcohol. The thing is, I think we need to be better at making smart choices.
Now that I'm back on the dating scene, I'm always hesitant to get excited about a girl who wants to "meet for some drinks" the first time we go out on a date. Right away I know we have something that we share totally opposite opinions on. From that point, it will be much harder to make other things work in the relationship. Sometimes I will still go out on that date for drinks and have no more than one or two. If I notice that girl is drinking at the same rate that I am, then there is still some hope. If she is drinking twice as much as me and doesn't seem to know when to call it quits, then I know 100% that I will never see that girl again.
When you have an alcohol problem, that is one thing. Hopefully, you can be like me and clean up your act. After that point, it becomes a lot easier to notice when others have an issue with drinking too much. Even if they aren't drinking in large amounts, consistent drinking is a sign that there is some healing that needs to be done. It's up to you if you wish to help the person or instead distance yourself to protect your own mental health.
I know not everyone will agree with my opinion on this and I'm guessing those who don't probably drink often. They will have many stories to prove that what they are doing is okay. Cool, that's great. I'm happy for you that you are having fun in life. Might I suggest that you find a healthier way to have an equal amount of fun, because there are so many things in this world that can make you happy? Happiness doesn't need to be accompanied by an elixir of darkness.
If you are any bit interested in etymology, then you can see right away that alcohol has some very dark roots. If you care to ponder it, you may wonder why words such as spirits are used to describe alcohol. Take gin for example. In some cultures, Jinn is thought to be an intelligent spirit of lower rank than the angels, able to appear in human and animal forms and to possess humans. Now I'm not religious, but I can tell you that getting drunk on gin will totally change you and make you seem as if you are possessed. I think all of this goes much deeper than any of us will ever be willing to investigate.
To end this rant, I want to encourage you to find a way to be happy with yourself in your normal state of being. Once you get to that point, things like alcohol and drugs will become a lot less appealing. You will feel as if you are removing a part of your soul when using them rather than boosting the greatness of your life.

I am so happy and grateful I stopped drinking! Cheers to our health.
We both are lucky that we did not fall down deep into the neverending pit that is alcoholism.
Truth.. I was lucky because I found a reason to quit. And that I have a reason not to drink alcohol anymore. Be well @daltono
I used to drink quite a bit. Like you said, it is so bad for your body and you don't do anything productive while drinking. Though, I did write a screenplay while I was drinking, but that may be because I was drinking absinthe, which can be interesting in itself. I am just glad that I have quit drinking and have found cannabis. Cannabis has cleared my mind and allowed me to focus on healing myself from the inside.
I have some good memories from my drunken days, but a lot of forgotten times too. I made a lot of terrible choices and I am lucky to still be alive after some of them. I've never tried absinthe, but I was enamored by it when I saw the little green fairy in one of my favorite comedies of all-time EuroTrip.
I'm happy for you man, cannabis is a million times more beneficial to us than alcohol.
I love a drink or two when I'm out with friends but never over the top with it. Sorry to hear that you had your past struggles with alcohol and I'm glad you came out victorious over it! Cheers to a healthier lifestyle!
Anyway been a big fan of your posts and love reading them. Was following you quite sometime back when I first join the Hive community and saw your post. Earlier this week, I started writing an my first ever blog during my free time. Hope to hear if you have any advise for a newbie like me 😁
Looking forward to your other posts.
Even now that I have self control, I don’t drink too often. I just don’t have the desire, but I’ll still have a beer randomly a few times a year.
I just read your into post. Glad to see you getting active.
Haha I wouldn't call myself active just yet since it is only my first post! 😅 Hoping to be consistent in posting if work schedule allows for it. Hope to catch you again soon and looking forward to your next post!
hmmmmmmm, i'm not much of a drinker, but
how about some..
You and I both share a fondness for that old movie EuroTrip. I watched that with my brother on many road trips. It never got old and was always funny.
👊😂🤣

Being a Muslim, Islam does not always allow something, so all the Muslims here in Pakistan and all over the world, most people stay away from it, very few people drink it. I have never been drink in 25 years of my life.
That is truly amazing. I can’t imagine getting to live in a society where you know nobody is getting drunk and always has full control of their mind. It must be amazing. No place is perfect, but a society without people being consumed by the powers of alcohol surely is unique.
Yes bro. People here walk around with a fresh mind and there are very few people who smoke here.
I'd always preferred driving to drinking alcohol, so I drove to all social events and had a great excuse to drink alcohol:) and the opportunity to drive a car.
Driving and drinking do not mix well, trust me I know from experience. Driving is a million times more fun than getting drunk. I'd choose my car over a beer 100 times out of 100.
If a person needs to be wasted to have a good time... something is broken... an unfortunate truth.
Very sad but true.
I drink to get drunk. When Im with friends I like to fish, jump on a atv , smoke a bunch of tree.... Drinking is fun at times but not for me overall.. I was a alcoholic in my younger years and I realized I would get killed if I kept drinking. So I stopped .... for the most part.
It's good you learned early about the possible consequences of always being in a drunken state. It's not easy to realize and some never do, no matter how obvious it is that alcohol can totally take control of your life.
Drinking is not habit of mine. Occassionally I take some. I have seen people gone crazy being a salve of excessive drinking. Many of my friends can't wait when they are invited to a drinking party. But I am the person who always be there among friends with taking a drop ..🤓🤓
I dread being in situations where people plan to get wasted because I know that both good and bad things can come from that habit. It's a lot less likely that something terrible will happen when you are sober and in control.
Hahaha
The question may sound funny but it is the truth
There are even some people who go out everyday to get themselves drunk. I never said drinking alcohol is bad but too much of everything is not good...
Putting a limit to most of the things that we do really helps a lot.
Drinking by yourself is a clear sign that something needs to change. Once I started doing that when I was younger, I knew I needed to change for the better.
I am a Muslim and alcohol is forbidden in our religion, that's why I have never tasted is so I don't know whats the feelings after drinking.
You are not missing out man, trust me on that. You are lucky that from a young age, alcohol is made out to be a terrible thing. For me when I was younger, everyone made alcohol seem like the cool thing to do. If you didn't drink you were lame. Now that I'm older I can look at situations like that and see how stupid it really was.
Yes dude and I have very proud on that it is forbidden already, and glad to know that you are already avoiding such stupid things.
If only the rest of the world would catch on.
I am not a fan of drinking alcohol. My only advice that I can give is do it in moderation or occasionally if you cannot quit it.
Moderation is much better than binge drinking. Life to me is better with little to none though.
So basically, everyone’s as insecure, they just hide it better.😉
I think I wouldn't drink beer at the first meeting, but later I would for sure ;)
That's a fair rule to set.
I drank my last alcohol more than 25 years ago in the army. I haven't missed the alcohol since then. Sometimes it's a little complicated when interacting socially. But so far I've managed well. Is cola really a healthy alternative? Stay happy without alcohol!
25+ years is a major accomplishment. Huge congrats to you for having the self-control to live a healthier life. I find it just as easy to carry a bottle of water around and sip on it, instead of forcing myself to drink alcohol just to fit in.
Cola may not be great for you, but at least it does not inhibit your mind like alcohol does.
