🦋🌼Hola amigos de Hive 🦋🌼
Sample: Urine.
Px male 53 years old.
This sample came to me on a working day first thing in the morning, urine is a liquid that varies in shades of yellow depending on our hydration levels, this liquid is produced in the kidneys as part of the body's excretion processes.
In particular, this patient showed a very cloudy urine, with a pH of 5.0 and a density of 1010 along with a hemoglobin mark on the chemical strip. By reading these characteristics we can already have an idea of what awaits us in sight through the microscope, clearly it is a urine that can be pathological.
The main thing is to determine what is causing that turbidity, it can be bacteria, crystals, leukocytes, mucin, epithelil cells and even red blood cells. In this case, when focusing, the crystals were very evident, specifically those of uric acid.
These crystals are characteristic of urine with an acidic pH, and are usually yellow or reddish in color and of a rhomboid shape, they can be found, isolated or forming rosettes. As we can see in the images. All these structures correspond to these crystals, thus evidencing their presence, the cause of the turbidity in this sample.
This patient also presented, buckles in the urine that can be caused by these same crystals, at the time of leaving our body, clinically not usually relevant if they are present in small quantities, but they can also indicate alterations in the metabolism of uric acid, or even the presence of urinary stones.
It is also associated with diseases such as gout, watery fever syndrome, high intake of purines, chronic nephritis among others that can become a big headache.
For us as bioanalysts it is a very nice finding through the microscope since it allows us to observe the different forms that our body can create, but for the patient it would not be the same. It is important to quantify each of the findings that we find so that the doctor can give a very precise diagnosis and in this case it would be the change of diet of our patient mainly and could require an imaging study to determine why he is bleeding, or even if he has stones in his kidneys.
A study as basic as collecting some urine in a sterile container can be of great help to avoid some other disease. It is really important to consume water and have a balanced diet, as well as constant exercise to improve our health and avoid any of these inconveniences.
