Sometimes I wonder if there's a single person on earth who didn't self-medicate even once in their lifetime. No, I'm not talking about the doctors and medical professionals but regular people like you and us; who sometimes take medicine for common problems, agree?
There's no doubt that it's not right. But who would go visit the doctor for a normal headache, diarrhea, or cold cough?
On the other hand, there's no argument that those small everyday diseases can indicate big health issues also self-medication can turn them into something big. Even if we are safe, it will take time to cure if the dozes are not correct.
I was not any different until I learned in the hard way!
Last year, I got tonsil infection, although it was nothing new to me yet I got it after a few years so I was clueless at the beginning.
You guessed it right, I went to the Google Doctor and it suggested me some home remedies. After following that for a day or two it didn't improve. So I searched about what antibiotic I needed to take to cure it.
As per the search result, I bought Amoxicillin 500mg tablet and took that 2 times a day for 3 days. But my infection didn't improve rather I had severe pain and white spots. It was unbearable.
Even if you search now about the doze of Amoxicillin, you will get the same doze result as I said. But the doze actually depends on the patient's condition and a registered medical professional is the one who can give the right dose. But I learned it later, not at that point.
I went to the doctor, and he prescribed me Azithromycin 500mg once daily for 3 days. Fortunately, I got better on the very first day and was cured after 3 days.
It was the power of the right medicine in the right doses.
The lesson learned
I'm blessed that it didn't cause any big health issues but I learned my lesson. I don't know, I always go to the doctor for my children but when it comes to me I usually ignore and delay.
Give your health priority, go to the doctor immediately if you are feeling like it, and never ignore it.
Even if the medicine comes with a paper that describes the doses, you never know if that's right for you or will work (like my case). Better see a doctor.
Never guess, never take suggestions from Google, and never skip any given test. It may not seem important to you but there's the reason the professional suggested it.
Don't skip your medicine course or follow halfway. Especially taking antibiotics in the wrong doses and not following the full course can cause serious health issues.
I know, we can't always afford a doctor for small diseases. I sometimes can't too. What I now follow is, taking advice through Online Health Services, which is affordable if the issues are normal and you need initial suggestions.
Moreover, keep some money aside for your medical bill if you don't have any insurance. I can't tell you, how much it helps during hard times.
I learned my lesson in a hard way but I'm fortunate that at least I learned the right things. It will surely save me from future incidents. I hope you will not make the mistake and have a healthy life.
