Hello everyone,I am excited to join in Healthy-Bees week 2 prompt. Thanks to the admin for this insightful topic.
Depression and anxiety are among the most prevalent mental health conditions affecting millions worldwide. They can interfere with everyday activities, strain relationships, and affect overall well-being. Although awareness is increasing, these conditions.there are still present remarkable oppositions due to dishonour, lack of comprehension, and restricted access to proper care. This story explores the issues surrounding depression and anxiety, the challenges in addressing them, and practical solutions for managing and overcoming these conditions.
In my secondary school days precisely my SS2 third term, one of my classmates a girl approached me and told me about her liking for me so I accepted her and we started as friends then it grows gradually and we were dating.I was always conscious of the fact that she was around which kept on the check and made me smart,neat and good,all my classmates were aware of it ,so both of us were always together in dark corners,whispering,touching,kissing and reading,you know teens stuff.
Now during my SS3 Second term,one of my classmates wrote a letter about our love life and dropped it on the principal desk.we were called by the Principal and interrogation were done,hmmm it was a dreadful moment.in that a disciplinary committee was set on our behalf,facing the panel every day,we were the talk of the term,at the end of it all ,we were suspended for two weeks.The Chairman of the Disciplinary committee took us to our houses with a letter to our parents.hmmm, reaching the house I couldn't face my Dad,everyday of those two weeks were like practical hell on earth, because my Dad reported me to our pastor.I was depressed, frustrated, excessive worrying,couldn't eat nor sleep for days,life was unbearable.but thank God for my Uncle that came to my aid, took me to his house and talked to me,taking me to good places to help me come out it,my pastor came around,prayers and a lot of moral talk. Instead of two weeks I ended up spending one month.Thank God I was ok before I went back to school.

CHALLENGES IN ADDRESSING DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY

  1. Stigma and Misconceptions
    A lot of people are afraid of being judged or misunderstood, preventing them from seeking help.

  2. Cultural and societal postures may label mental health fights as individual failures.

PRACTICAL SOLUTION FOR MANAGING DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY

  1. Seeking Professional Help
    Choosing therapy like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps manage negative thought patterns.

  2. Exercise: Doing exercise regularly releases endorphins that improve mood.

  3. Educational and Workplace Initiatives
    Schools and workplaces should provide mental health programs and counseling services.

Conclusion: Depression and anxiety are mental health issues that can be corrected through the right approach, they can be controlled by promoting awareness, removing stigma, and giving access to health counselors. Individuals can recover control over their lives and amend their mental wellbeing.
