For all Forest fans this week is an important one for a number of reasons. History, Present and Future all give us something to think about this week.
History
We celebrated 50 years since the appointment of Brian Clough, Forest’s most successful manager. I am very slightly too young to remember the real glory days of European Success but I had many visits to Wembley during his reign and was at the 1991 FA Cup final where bad refereeing and an own goal meant it was still the major trophy missing from his cabinet.
Clough was a great man manager but it would be really interesting to see where he would fit in with the current players with their celebrity status.
Present
A two match week and brings Forest to a run of 6 consecutive wins in the top division for the first time since 1967. The performance against Wolves wasn’t a classic but walking away with a 3-0 win after some great defensive work and maybe a little luck from players being in the right place at the right time.
Luton in the FA Cup bought a different prospect and 11 changes to the team, giving the bench some game time on a freezing winter afternoon, a 2-0 win which could have been more but could have also been different had Luton taken one of their early chances.
We also got to congratulate the manager on his success as Manager of the Month for the 2nd time this season, although we have to hope it doesn’t lead to a slump like the last time he won it!
Future
The future, an interesting few weeks ahead in the transfer window, although the return of Danilo against Luton felt like a new signing after losing him 14 minutes into the season. Keeping hold of some of our players will be the hard part, lots of rumours circulating around.
Tuesday night brings the next challenge as we have the visit if league leaders Liverpool who will be looking for revenge after our win at Anfield earlier in the season. Here’s hoping for another great performance!
