Hive FPL Head to Head League GW11 Previews

Now that we're 10 weeks into the season, the tables in both our head to head leagues are beginning to take shape and perhaps warrant a little more analysis that what we've provided to date.

Screen Shot 2023-11-04 at 07.32.29.png

In Division 1, @shamzy 's victory over @yagman01 in the top of the table clash helped maintain their 3 point lead in what is otherwise still a very congested league.

At the bottom, it looked like we might be getting to a situation where a few teams were going to be cut adrift but recent results including victories for what were the bottom 2 in @talesfrmthecrypt and @elmose last week as well as defeats for many of the teams in midtable have created a concertina effect on the league meaning that sides can still shift 3-4 places in either direction at the end of this week's matches.

Remember, the bottom 5 in Division 1 will face relegation from the top flight come the end of the season so it's all to play for both at the foot of that league but also at the top of Division 2.

In that regard, @happyboy1 made it 9 wins out of 10 to extend their lead at the top of Division 2. No other side in the Hive FPL has as good a H2H record as they do. However, they are likely to face challenges from @skanderh and @acidyo who both find themselves in the promotion positions as well as the top 5 places in the classic league.

The Haaland question is perhaps the hottest topic in FPL at the moment. His barren run of games coupled with City's down turn in form prompted a lot of teams to drop last season's top scorer and free up funds for elsewhere. In addition to that has been the emergence of Ollie Watkins as a viable goalscoring alternative.

Cast your mind back to the same period last season and managers were spoilt for choice as far as their forward picks went. However, Kane and Mitrovic have left the league, Jesus seems perpetually injured and Toney won't return from suspension for a another couple of months.

That really meant that even with a £14 million price tag, managers had very little choice but to pick Haaland. Watkins consistency this season and a very favourable run of fixtures has changed that dynamic although as Haaland showed last week, tales of his demise have been much exaggerated. Still what it has done is made the FPL far more interesting than it was in 2022/23 when the default setting was to pick Haaland and probably to captain him most game weeks too.

Prizes for winners of last week's head to head matches will be sent later today.

GW11 Fixtures

Division 1

@mckane v @b0s

Screen Shot 2023-11-01 at 06.18.46.png

Both these sides could really use a win in GW11. 3 straights defeats for Legion FC has seen them drop away from the top spots, at least for now, while FC McKane have won just 1 of their last 4 and now sit just above the relegation zone.

FC McKane have 2 Newcastle defenders in their side but with the Magpies facing Arsenal it might prove difficult to extract points from them both. Meanwhile the goalkeeper picks could prove interesting with both sides having Onana in their side and Manchester United facing a Fulham team who look unlikely to score. Onana though has delivered just 1 clean sheet in his last 9 appearances. Both teams have viable alternatives if they don't fancy the United shot stopper.

In midfield, Mitoma looks to have the easier fixture out of the differentials but the Japan winger has blanked in his last 4 games and his Brighton side haven't won any of those matches.

Upfront, leading scorer Haaland will be relishing the chance to go up against a struggling Bournemouth defence. It's incredible how high the standards for the City striker are these days when people were suggesting that a player who has 11 goals in 10 league appearances is having an off season...

@nonsowrites v @ipalibo

Whyte FC are on the move up following a 3rd straight win in GW10 which took them ahead of this week's opponents in Nonz FC.

There is not a huge amount to choose between the 2 sides but you'd have to say that Nonz FC posses the better defensive options with the possibility that they can double up on City players as they host lowly Bournemouth.

By comparison, Whyte FC have gone in big on several of the most productive offensive options this season including Watkins, Salah, Son and Haaland. The later 2 who both play at home this weekend against bottom half opposition could ultimately prove the difference in this fixture.

@borran v @pappyelblanco

Screen Shot 2023-11-01 at 07.35.01.png

Both teams played their wildcards in GW10 and so will be disappointed to have come up with slightly below average scores which lead to defeats. It does, however, mean that there are plenty of differentials for this fixture.

Creekside FC took the interesting decision to select Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay. To be fair both have been regular starters over the last few weeks with McTominay in particular continuing to look like United's most likely goal scorer (although that's not saying much).

While as far as leftfield picks go, Hiveheadz have gone for Brigthon midfielder Simon Adingra. The youngster has managed 3 goal involvements this season and the Seagulls have a good run of fixtures in November.

@teofilex11 v @gvkanten

Screen Shot 2023-11-02 at 06.42.20.png

A run of good form for both these sides has pushed them up into the top half of the table with very little separating them at the 10 game mark. Indeed, the squads themselves also share a lot of similarities so this should be a tightly fought contest.

At the back you'd say that Likodra FC hold the slight advantage with Trent's Liverpool travelling to a Luton side that have scored just 9 goals this season. Both sides have Newcastle defenders in their team which means any clean sheet bonus (or not) will be cancelled out by the other, while in that same match question marks remain over Zinchenko's involvement after he was rested from the side last weekend but involved in Arsenal's midweek defeat.

In more attacking areas, Hungry Lions certainly hold the advantage if for no other reason than Likodra FC have a couple of injury problems with Neto and Jesus out. The transfer(s) to cover those loses could be crucial in deciding the outcome of this one.

@blockchainfpl v @martinlazizi

Lazz moved up to 3rd in the league with their 7th win of the season in GW10 while BlockchainFPL maintained their recent run of form to record a 3rd win in as many weeks. Having been rock bottom a couple of weeks ago, a 4th victory could potentially move them into the top half of the table!

I usually start by analysing the differentials in defence but it's worth noting the significant differences in attack for this head to head. From memory at least, I think this is the first fixture in division 1 where there have been no common picks across the forward line.

It may be that Archer and Foster are in the BlockchainFPL team to fill the numbers rather than start many games but that has allowed them to pick 5 premium midfield options.

Lazz meanwhile have 3 Chelsea players in their squad which looking at the run of fixtures for the Blues might not work out favourably for them. This week, the 2 defenders Colwill and Gusto, travel to a Spurs side that have scored at least twice in 9 of their 10 matches this season.

@vickoly v @elmose

Screen Shot 2023-11-03 at 05.38.16.png

Come in Augment FC! Are you still with us? Given that they haven't made any transfers or changed their team for the past 3 weeks it looks like Augment FC have taken a mid-season sabbatical. Still, that hasn't stopped them from getting back up to 4th place. Their opponents this GW got a much needed win last time out and can feel slightly aggrieved that they aren't higher up the table when you consider their total points are actually greater than Augment's!

The lack of transfer activity means that Augment are without 3 players due to injury so assuming they remain dormant, we know which 10 outfield players will gain points. In general, their squad is heavily reliant on West Ham, Brighton and Man City performing.

As for Espada Numero Uno, they played their wildcard last week and have understandably stacked themselves with Villa players, a smart move given both recent form and upcoming fixtures. Assuming that Augment don't make changes then you'd have thought that their attacking differentials have the firepower to deliver a win and potentially move them out of the relegation spots.

@amirtheawesome1 v @deniskj

Screen Shot 2023-11-03 at 05.52.54.png

For the 2nd week running, The Amirians take on the bottom placed side. This should be a pretty close fought contest when you look at both teams recent scores as well as their season total with just 4 points separating them after 10 game weeks.

I Feel Qatari will be sweating on the fitness of Udogie and Lamptey (I only include players in the differential list with over a 50% chance of playing at the time of writing) which would otherwise leave them with just 3 fit defenders and force them to double up on Palace defensive assets.

A similar problem has occurred for the Amirians in recent weeks with the selection of both Sanchez and Colwill and the fact that Chelsea haven't kept a clean sheet in 4 of their last 5 fixtures.

In attacking areas it really comes down to Saka vs Gordon with Arsenal travelling to Newcastle this weekend and then Alvarez vs Haaland as City host a Bournemouth team that you would expect to beat comfortably and rack up a few points for both in the process.

@yagman01 v @belemo

Screen Shot 2023-11-03 at 06.27.24.png

Yagman FC lost out in the top of the table clash in GW10 while Inzanagi FC slipped into the bottom half following their latest defeat.

In defence, Yagman FC have Dalot and Tsimikas who while both playing away from home face opposition who have found it difficult to score with any regularity this season. Inzanagi FC meanwhile have Burn and Saliba who will potentially take points from one another in the Newcastle v Arsenal game.

In midfield, both sides continue to keep faith in Manchester United players. Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford genuinely look like they don't give a shit at the moment with the former having delivered goal involvements in 3 out of his 10 matches this season and the later in only 2 out of 10!

Upfront, you'd say that Inzanagi FC hold the edge with all 3 of their options looking a good bet to get on the scoresheet this weekend. In GW10, they lost faith with Haaland who they'd captained for the previous 4 weeks and that cost them. Will they make the same mistake again? Given that Yagman have outscored them comfortably in recent weeks, they'll need to get every call right this time around.

@thoth442 v @pvmihalache

Screen Shot 2023-11-03 at 06.47.45.png

Thoth442 are no strangers to success in these head to head matches having won the inaugural Hive Cup in 22/23 and as such, it's no great surprise to see them moving up to 2nd in the league with a great chance to get a further victory against a Content Creators side that has really struggled in recent weeks.

Thoth442 played their wildcard last time out and ditched their United midfielders in favour of some of the form players in the league. That's left them with the likes of Salah, Son and Watkins as differentials in this game week and you'd have thought that will be enough to deliver victory.

Where Content Creators could potentially compete is at the back with some higher priced defensive assets and Ederson who you'd have thought will keep a clean sheet against Bournemouth. However, their points hauls in GW9 and GW10 are well off that of their opponent's so you'd imagine that a lot of things are going to need to go right for them to win this one!

@shamzy v @talesfrmthecrypt

Screen Shot 2023-11-03 at 07.15.20.png

Shamzy FC maintained their 3 point gap at the top with a win over rivals Yagman FC in GW10. On paper then, this would seem like a much more straight forward fixture against 18th placed Suffragette City. However, as the points totals over the last 2 GWs show, it is likely to be a closer match than the table would suggest.

The differentials are most prominent in defence but even there both sides have similarities with a Newcastle and Arsenal defender each. Matty Cash and Aston Villa travel to Nottingham Forest while Jonny Evans may be part of a United defence that looks decidedly shaky at present but even they would fancy their chances of keeping out a toothless Fulham attack.

Upfront, it'll be Alvarez against Watkins. Both players have had very consistent seasons so far but blanked in GW10. You'd be surprised if they both failed to get a goal involvement again this week. Otherwise it's a battle between strikers of newly promoted strugglers. Both Sheffield United and Burnley face crunch home fixtures this weekend against sides also in the bottom half.

In midfield, both sides have an injury so the differentials may increase but otherwise it comes down to Son v Palmer in the Spurs v Chelsea game on Monday night which from the looks of things, might end up deciding this tie.

My next opponent (Adedayoolumide) might be at the bottom half of the table but going through his last 2 gameweek performance it seems he's getting back on track. I'm looking forward to an interesting battle, hopefully my captain choice and subs won't disapoint me.

Yep, league position tells only half the story. Good luck
