Well, here we are again with another game week of EPL football and a lot to ponder about your FPL teams. Premier league managers may take a break from league football but FPL managers never rest. FA cup and league cup action hogged the spotlight over the past couple of weekends, giving us a lot to think about as we approach midweek fixtures later today.
Bees vs Citizens
We saw Manchester City put 8 goals past Salford with Grealish finally ending his dry spell that spans over a year. Haaland got some well deserved rest, so he'll be firing to go against Brentford this evening.
We also saw Ederson feature in this cup fixture but it is hard to decipher if he's now the cup goalkeeper for City or this is how he makes his way back into the fold. If he does get backinto the fold, he'll have to watch out for Bee's winger Mbuemo that has been in red hot form.
Blues vs Cherries
Chelsea are winless in their last four Premier league matches, scoring just two goals in that period. However they put 5 past their Fa cup opposition, meaning there are goals in the squad. It was a heavily rotated squad that faced Morecomb, so it is safe to say that Palmer and Jackson will be looking to end their EPL drought in front of the home crowd.
Over in the South coast, couldn't be more different as the Cherries unbeaten in their last seven, winning four of the matches and only dropping points due to profilgacy in finishing. Huijsen looks like the best value defender to have in your squad right now, offering points from his input at both ends of the field.
Hammers vs Cottagers
Things are looking pretty dire at West ham these days but with the recent appointment of graham Potter, things could take a turn for the better. Brighton are still benefitting from his work and the Hammers will be hoping he can replicate the same, getting the best out of quality players like Kudus and Paqueta.
Fulham go into this fixture as firm favourites and with Jimenez in such fine form, it is hard seeing him not put a few past Fabianski later today. Iwobi continues to be a constant threat in midfield and he could be amongst the goals later today.
Forest vs The Reds
Believe it or not but this is a straight bout between two of three leading title contenders. Try to downplay it as much as you want but Forest are the real deal, they're in 3rd position but only because of goal difference. A big part of Forest's rise has been the energetic Elanga traversing the wings and putting in solid displays every week. Gibbs-white is another player that deserves a second look for your midfield, if you're looking for a relatively cheap and consistent addition to your team.
In some way, Liverpool are also surprise packages because, lets face it, no one saw this coming. Salah looks to be in the best shape of his life as he plays out the rest of his contract and well, we could say the same for TAA. We could be seeing the end of an era at Liverpool and the protagonists are going out with a bang.
Toffees vs Villains
After serving his one-game ban, Rogers will be back in the fold will be looking to continue his fine form at home. Duran has gotten the nod over Watkins in recent weeks, so it might be best to just avoid both of them in a fixture where we can expect Everton to defend deep anyway.
David Moyes went full circle and is now the current manager at Everton. His first responsibility in the league will be against a solid Villa side that have stuttered in recent weeks. Pickford is still one of the best performing goalkeepers this season, so he should definitely be considered for your squad.
Foxes vs Eagles
After being vigorously slammed by Arsenal in those back-to-back fixtures, Palace haven't lost a match since. Eberechi Eze has been influential for the away side and we can expect him to be amongst the goals in what I expect to be a low scoring affair in this bottom half fixture.
Toons vs Wolves
Newcastle put one foot in the final of the carabao cu after their 2-0 win at the Emirates then followed that up with a comfortable win against Bromley where a lot of starters were rested. One name that was noticably not on the list is Isak that has recently been struggling with a Hamstring issue. Anthony Gordon was amongst the goals in the weekend, against Arsenal and will be looking to continue his fine form in front of the home crowd at St. james'.
Over at Wolves, it has been a mmixed bag of results and you never can tell which side you'll see. One thing for sure is that if any goals are going to come for the away side then Cunha and Guedes will almost certainly be involved.
Gunners vs Spurs
The North London is always a feisty affair against neighbouring institutions and rivals. Despite both teams struggles, you can expect fire works at he Emirates. Spurs have had the short end of the stick in this rivalry in recent years and hardly ever win at the Emirates but for FPL players, all that matters is who scores and this is the kind of game you can expect Solanke to chipin with a goal or two.
Despite Arsenal's dominance in recent games, goals have been hard to come by and the sad news of Jesus potentially rupturing his ACL just when he started scoring goals doesn't bode well for the Gunners. Despite all their creativity, Arsenal's most potent goal threat still lies further back with Gabriel looking more likely to score than kai Haverts.
Tractor Boys vs Seagulls
Ipswich town have shown that they have the dog in them after that stunning victory against Chelsea. In Brighton, they face a different kind of challenge that they'd firmly believe they can overcome if Delap wears the right shooting boots.
The Seagulls are winless in their last four Premier league matches and will be looking to break the duck against a team wallowing in the depths of the EPL table. FPL managers will be sweating on the fitness of Joao Pedro and will also be looking at Adingra to offer attacking returns.
Red Devils vs Saints
It looks like the Saints will pay a visit to the Devils buoyed by their recent victory against the Gunners. Amad Diallo looks to be the spark in the Manchester United squad and against a Saints team clinging to the foot of the table, it is safe to expect attacking returns from the winger.
Bruno Fernandes was on the scoresheet against Arsenal and the captain will almost certainly be amongst the goals against the Saints.
In Summary
We're now at the halfway point of the season and with matches coming thick and fast, there will be double game weeks in the offing. tailor your strategy to account for future game weeks by including consistent starters from teams that have double gameweeks.
In future publications, we'll also talk chips and also look at the new assistant manager perk that's been introduced to the game. Until then, good luck managers.
Beautiful analysis.
Personally, I'm looking at reverting to 4-3-3 with bringing in Lewis Hall but I'm disturbed because of Isak's condition.
In the end it'll either be that or just going for Gordon in place of inconsistent Martinelli
That's always the problem with Isak, every time he becomes a must have player, he gets injured!
