FPL GAMEWEEK 2: Did Everyone Have Haaland as Captain?

in Football on Hive ⚽️3 months ago (edited)

As the season rolls on, Manchester City and Haaland are back to their usual selves, with Haaland netting a hat-trick against Ipswich. I was surprised Ipswich managed to score—I had bet on City to win 5-0, but that bet was done and dusted after just 7 minutes!

Meanwhile, my team, Spurs, cruised to a 4-0 victory over Everton, with two goals from our star captain, Son. I placed a bet on Richarlison to score anytime at 2.25 odds, but he didn't star so the bet was a void. Given his goal against Everton last season, I’m confident that the bet would have come through if he had started.

Now, onto my Fantasy Football team’s performance last weekend. Overall, I was pleased with the results. Making Haaland my captain against newly promoted Ipswich was a no-brainer. Looking at the other teams in my leagues, most managers had either Haaland or Salah as captain.

This week, I made three transfers, swapping out Palmer (Chelsea) and Saka (Arsenal) for Son and De Bruyne. My thinking was that Chelsea might struggle against Wolves after their midweek European match against Servette, but they surprised me by winning 6-2. I also dropped Saka because I expected a tight game against Villa, and though Arsenal did win, my bet on Under 2.5 goals came through. De Bruyne, as expected, delivered with a masterclass performance full of goals and assists.

Unfortunately, I had to make another transfer later that evening when I found out Dominic Solanke was injured and wouldn’t play. That cost me another 4 points, which was frustrating because I had high hopes for him to score.

I ended the week with 90 points, and I’m pretty chuffed that I had Smith-Rowe from Fulham, who actually scored. I think he’ll become a regular starter, and at just £5.6 million, he’s a real bargain as long as he stays fit.

There’s always room for improvement, though. In hindsight, I should have kept Raya in as goalkeeper instead of Steele—Raya scored a fantastic 10 points. I’m also keeping an eye on Isak from Newcastle; he got an assist in his first game, but I’ll give him a couple more game weeks before deciding whether to transfer him out.

Finally, I’d like to give a shoutout to @nonsowrites for inspiring me to start posting about Fantasy Football!
