A Thrilling London Derby

If there's one thing that has been established thus far, it is that Graham Potter was like a fish out of water while he was at Chelsea. He was way out of his depth. Simply put, he's not ready for the big time - not yet. This assertion is even more damning when you consider the fact that Chelsea under Pochettino aren't world beaters - once again, not yet! However, the pattern of play, the urgency, the aggression this expensively assembled team has shown thus far is enough proof they won't finish outside the top 10 this season.

Against Arsenal, Chelsea were by far the more dangerous team. The only reason they didn't win is because of their incredible knack for wasting clear cut, gilt-edged chances. Surely, some of those chances will go in regularly as the season goes on. Add to that the small detail of the triumphant return of their swashbuckling captain, Reece James and their ceiling instantly goes a lot higher. His presence in combo with the improving Sterling automatically makes Chelsea's right wing one of the most dangerous in the league. Keep both of them fit and firing and Chelsea will be pushing for the top 7.

As for Arsenal, they were underwhelming from the onset against Chelsea. Despite the incredible repertoire Jorginho has he's still an easy target when things get rough and physical. Considering the fact that Arsenal has battled hard to prove they are no longer that team that can be physically picked apart, it was a surprise Arteta started the Italian ahead of the more physical Partey in the holding midfield role in a game that is historically physical and tense. And the effect was that Arsenal were exposed time and again as Chelsea continually powered through the middle and looked dangerous with every foray forward. It's no surprise Arsenal became a lot more dangerous when Jorginho was substituted while the tenacious Declan Rice took his role at the base of the midfield.

This game was meant to be that which gives Arsenal the all green to charge for the title, especially after putting Man City to the sword before the break. However, considering the way the game at Stamford Bridge panned out, it's more of one point gained than two points lost for the Gunners. It kept them level on points with City at the summit of the league table, but the North Londoners will definitely go back home with the silent thought they let a huge opportunity slip away.

Anyway, this thrilling drama of a season is just starting. We're yet to even play a quarter of the season. It's way too early to start monitoring the league table as it is.

As for Arsenal, it's true that their performance against Chelsea wasn't as expected. Jorginho's inclusion in the lineup may have been a surprise, and it did seem to affect their midfield dynamic. Nevertheless, the league is a long race, and teams have their ups and downs.

Each team will face disappointing moments but with Guardiola's Man City still very much alive and kicking, every point matters. Those two points could haunt Arteta when the season ends.
