When it comes to having a long-term plan with a manager, Liverpool stands out in that area. It is not news that over the past 8 years, Liverpool has seen only two managers at the club, which are Klopp and Arne Slot. It's important to note that Klopp chose to part ways with Liverpool as he said the job is becoming exhausting, and he wants to have a break from managing a club. Liverpool never showed indication of sacking Klopp as they were ready to continue the project with the Dutch manager.
Klopp was a manager that had the hearts of the Liverpool fans on and off the pitch. Klopp made the fans believe that the club can achieve great things even at their lowest point. When the club contract expired about two seasons ago, I remember it took the board and some players to convince the manager to continue at the club, which just shows how important Klopp has been to the club. Klopp will remain an important part of Liverpool's history, and someday he could return not as a manager but as an important part member of the board.
When Klopp announced his departure from the club, and everything was confirmed that this time the Dutchman was serious about leaving, Liverpool began to search for a new manager, and the two names that were on that list were Xabi Alonso and Arne Slot. Xabi Alonso was having an incredible spell at Bayern Leverkusen as they had an incredible unbeaten run until they met Atalanta in the Europa League final. It seemed fair that Xabi Alonso was the top candidate for the job, but Xabi reconsidered the option and decided to stay in Leverkusen, which gave more light to the Arne Slot idea of being Liverpool manager.
Arne Slot was the manager of Feyenoord from 2021-2024, and during his time at the club, he won the Eredivisie in the 2022/2023 season and the KNVB Cup in the 2023/2024 season. Arne Slot had a good run with Feyenoord, and although he didn't win many trophies with the club, he was able to make the team competitive in the league. I looked up how Feyenoord performed throughout Arne Slot's time at Feyenoord in the Eredivisie league and saw the club was always in the top three by the end of each season during Slot time at the club.
The start shows he was a good manager, but I was still sceptical about what he could deliver to Liverpool in the Premier League, and so far, his first season at the club has exceeded my expectations over the past months. Liverpool are at the top of the table with 12 points ahead of the second-place team is incredible because nobody expects a manager to win the league quickly in their first season, but Arne Slot and Hansi Flick for Barcelona are about to do it this season.
Liverpool's exit from the Champions League is not what all Liverpool fans hoped, but winning the league after Manchester City's crazy run will be a great achievement for the club this season under Slot. It is a new era for Liverpool under Arne Slot and I hope to see more incredible moments with the club under this new era.
