Sometimes I wonder if there is good or harmless gossip. You know whatever you said behind someone is gossip because it was said at his or her back. If that is true all of have engaged in gossip in one way or the other. Let's go into the topic of this week contest about gossip
This week's topic:
Gossip - What do you think about gossip and its role in society? Do you think gossip has become an essential part to build bonds in society?
There are too types gossip, harmless gossip and harmful gossip. Harmless gossip is about good things we about others like promoting people's products, telling others about good things others did for us. While harmful gossip is spreading lies about people. Saying things that will ruin people's reputation, this kind of harmful gossip is very bad.
Gossip as we know fo not really help the society because it will only project the other person as a bad person. Many marriages has suffered because of gossip. People lost their job because of harmful gossip. Many too have even lost their lives because of gossip. In our society today, gossip cannot promote bond rather it will create more enemies than friends.
In as much as there are some good talks we talk about people at their back. We should not be known as gossiper. If one is described as a gossiper, it will be difficult for people to go very close to such a person or share their secrets with such a person because he or she cannot keep confidential matters.
Let me share real life story of what happened March this year to prove that gossip is not really helping our society. Two ladies had gossiped about another lady saying that her first Son was not the husband biological Son. One of them made a costly mistake by telling the in question that the boy he is sending to school is not his Son. She even told him that it was the other lady that told her.
Water do pass garri. This Man angrily went to his wife office to ask her to explain who boy's father is. The wife was like, honey, I don't understand what you are saying. It was a serious matter that involved the village head, the family members and even the 2 communities. The man was ready to throw the wife out of his house if it true. A DNA test was conducted and behold, the Man was the boy biological father.
While this matter was on, a lot of gossip spread in the whole community calling the innocent woman names. The landlord of the other two ladies sent them out of his house. You see that harmful gossip cannot help us rather it will scatter relationship, business and even churches.
Avoid harmful gossip
It is a habit that is hard to break just like smoking and drinking. But with strong determination, one can be free from gossip. It call for self examination and determination to stop it. Lost friends will come back s soon as they find out that you are a change person. If our society will be free if people who go about saying lies about people, bullies, reputation destroyers, we will have peaceful environment.

Interesting, so harmful gossip is more like a story without real or verified information, while good gossip is based on real and verified things that others have done. So the moral would be that we should learn to check that the information we are given is true and that we should not go around telling lies.
