Virtually everything in life comes in pairs. Just as life and death are intertwined, so too are joy and sadness. Regardless of how joyful or content one's life may be, moments of sadness are inevitable. No matter how radiant one's smile or how full their heart, sorrow can creep in unexpectedly, casting a shadow on even the brightest of days.
Feeling sadness is part of being human. It's an emotion, a signal that tells us something's wrong and needs to be addressed. Maybe it’s something external, like a difficult situation, a loss, world conflicts or natural disasters, social injustices or inequality. Or maybe it’s internal, like a fear or a trauma, regret or "what ifs", health issues etc. Either way, your sadness is telling you that there’s something that needs attention.
Finding comfort in sadness can be a difficult and perplexing concept, but it can also be extremely liberating. And you know, the ability to find that kind of comfort in sadness is a sign of emotional maturity and resilience. It's a testament to your strength as a person, and that's something to be proud of.
Just like I recently shared about how the feeling of hopelessness took over me after losing my job amidst recovering from heartbreak. So watching my savings disappear and equally facing job rejections brought overwhelming sadness and despair. But at a point I surrendered to the twists and turns, embracing the beauty of uncertainty. Comfort settled in, as I discovered peace in the midst of life's ebbs and flows. That was a turning point of discovering hidden opportunities.
It's so easy to try to push sadness away and pretend it doesn’t exist, but that’s not healthy. Ignoring those feelings can lead to denial, resentment, or even depression. So I think it's incredibly important to allow yourself to feel sadness. Doing this doesn’t mean wallowing in it forever. It’s about:
Acknowledging your feelings - Which helps you stay connected to your genuine emotions, fostering self-awareness and authenticity.
Validating the feelings - Allowing yourself to feel sadness helps process and integrate difficult experiences. Build self compassion and resilience, enabling you to better cope with future challenges.
Moving on - Expressing sadness provides an outlet for built-up emotions, reducing tension, anxiety, depression and promoting relaxation, physical health, self-reflection and personal growth.
Connection and empathy: Sharing sadness with others deepens relationships, fostering empathy and understanding.
Basically allowing oneself to feel sadness is essential for emotional well-being, physical and mental health.
What I Do In Moment Of Sadness
I am an emotional person, and when sadness washes over me, my first instinct is to cry.
I allow myself to release the weight of my emotions, letting tears flow freely. This cathartic expression helps me to acknowledge my pains, clears my mind and heart paving way for the healing process.
Secondly, I can either talk to a trusted friend or family member.
The benefits of doing this is that I feel cared for and emotionally relieved afterwards. I equally gain new insights and viewpoints that can help refrain my struggles, not forgetting strengthening bond of the relationship.
Journaling my thoughts, or writing songs are other healthy practices that I incorporate in my healing journey.
I've written a couple of songs in my moment of sadness including some blog posts too. Each time I go through them, I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment.
Spending time in nature is a powerful antidote to sadness. How I love bird watching, taking a walk, visiting the garden park, beach, waterfalls or just any natural environment.
These simple exercises help uplift my mood thereby alleviating any negative feelings. I feel calm and relaxed afterwards. Not only that, I gain inspiration to be creative - write blogs, songs, cook and gardening too. 😂. The best part is that I feel a sense of connection to nature and its beautiful gifts.
Sadness is a natural, temporary emotion. Embracing it helps you heal, grow, and develop emotional resilience.
There is indeed beauty in tears!
Thank you for reading.

Sadness is an emotion we cannot deny or avoid because it creeps in when life takes an unexpected turn. Pretending not to be sad doesn't take the sadness away, rather it only leads to resentment, hurt and regret. The best is to face it heads on by practicing mindfulness like those ones you listed. Among them is taking a walk in nature and one would feel the calmness in them making them enlightened and see a new ray of hope.
Very well said. You know, sometimes we die in silence, pretending that all is well when they're actually not. And it is this act of suppressing sadness that leads to feelings of depression and even causing harm to oneself like suicide.
The best bet is to accept the feeling and find ways to tackle it for a happier life.

Yep, we all feel sadness every now and then. It is an emotion that is in us but if it longers might lead to devastating consequences.
Cry if you must but get up and get over it.
This was a lovely read 👍
