Failing Forward

in QC Community14 days ago

There is nothing better than a good win but for me the wins are built on a lot of failure. I like the ideal of failing forward turning a negative into a positive, building on all the hard work.

I have a lot of experience failing as a player and a coach. Failure just became a problem solving exercise. Catching and marking the ball was an issue for me until I learned to watch the ball all the way into my hands. Some of my coaching drills looked great on paper but hopeless for younger children. Usually it only took a few tweaks and adjustments to get things working smoothly.

Some times it took years of failing before we finally got it all together. Endless training on skills and fitness, team building and bonding. It was almost like we had the experience the pain of failing before we we would make sure it would not happen again.

Walking off a sporting ground after any sort loss is character building, watching the other team celebrate and listening to them sing there club song.

We would fail in private at club training and then in public during games as long as we were trying a learning we were heading in the right direction.

We were never the best, strongest or most talented team but we just kept working on our fitness and getting to every contest eventually with enough persistence things started to go our way. We kept training and working on our weakness but never stopped focussing on our strengths well. Some our our players did not like what we were about and left but most believed and learned.

That's such a great way of handling it. I think that "failure" sounds so big and bad that makes us afraid of failing, but if we look at it from your perspective, it's just an obstacle in the road that we have to figure out how to overcome. It's not the end of the road, it's just a quick stop ❤️❤️
