Never Giving Up

in QC Community11 days ago

Well not anytime soon, definitely not today. I don't like giving up. It feels so much better to get things done even if the result is not always perfect.

My strongest memory on not giving up was during covid. We had some sort partial lock down but you could go out for essential shopping or work and to exercise once per day within 50km of your residence.

So after working all week with not much happening on the weekend I decided to one exercise workout as per the rules. I felt like a bit of a rebel because I was aiming for a workout so big it would take all day and most of the night. Looking back it is a bit wrong but I was not hurting anyone and I did not even see hardly anyone during my 100 kilometre walk/run around my local nature reserve.

100 kilometres sounded a bit easier if I broke it down into 4 x 25km loops, back to back with a short break at my house to refuel. I have always run and try to stay fit but this was way bigger than my usual 5 or 10 km regular run.

Cutting a long story short I got up really early in the morning at 2 am with my head lamp and way hoping to be all done in 16 hours or so.

This is where the not giving up bit comes it as it took a little longer than 16 hours. The first 3 loops of 75km were good but 10 kilometres into the last 25 I hit a wall, I could not run and was struggling to walk even with the poles.

I needed to sit on logs in the bush then struggled to stand. I have never wanted to give up more but there was no way I would get to 85 km and leave it unfinished. I used the thought of if I could just get it done I would never have to do it again.

It probably would have been wiser if I had a bigger decent rest but I struggled on, matter how slow just one step at a time.

I got there in the end, more than 22 hours later but I got it done and still got to work Monday! though I was sore for weeks!

Wow! That is a crazy feat! Well done!

I have done some long, lone, cross country as a younger man before... some hectic distances from one town, through the countryside and up mountain passes to another town.

How is your leg coming along

The leg is good. The wound healed nicely.

Then I went from Wound dressings to plasters.

Today is the first day without a plaster and with nothing on the leg. Still wearing shorts though... Should be fine to dry and to heal fully.

Good to hear

Can February march?
No, but April may.

I wish I had the willpower to not give up on the gym, seeing you walking reminded me of something I gave up on.

You just need to find your reason why
